Job Title: Grounds Worker

Reporting Relationship: Director of Grounds and Landscaping

Unit: IWU-Marion

Department: Facilities Management-IWU Marion

Campus Location: Maintenance Building

Summary of Position:    The Grounds Worker position will be responsible for working at the athletic fields doing field lining, mowing, repair, setup as well as duties on campus such as snow removal, lawn care, landscaping, waste disposal / recycling, general grounds care & facilities maintenance.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve the campus community in the capacity determined by the Director of Grounds and Landscaping. Responsibilities include:
    • Snow removal
    • Campus lawn care
    • Campus landscaping
    • Campus waste disposal/recycling
    • General grounds care and facilities maintenance
    • Perform other related duties as assigned 
  • Adhere to any safety regulations and standards spelled out in the IWU safety policy and/or dictated by trainings 
  • Comply with any processes and procedures established by Facilities Management and/or Indiana Wesleyan University administration 
  • Ability to work in extreme weather conditions...Hot and Cold
  • Ability to perform heavy manual labor, including bending, stooping, reaching, and lifting heavy objects up to 75 lbs. 
  • Attentive to detail, a self-starter, and ability to work without close supervision
  • Excellent communication skills; discerning and tactful 
  • Willingness to serve in any capacity determined by any member of the Grounds Department leadership team 
  • Ability to read and follow written and oral instructions 
  • Ability to work cooperatively with other employees and the general public 
  • May be required to work overtime as directed by supervision 
  • Supervise and direct student worker pool as necessary 

Qualifications: According to Indiana Wesleyan University employment policy all employees must possess a strong Christian commitment and adhere to the standards outlined in the IWU Community Lifestyle Statement.


  • High School diploma


  • Two (2) years of relative experience in a grounds/maintenance related field

Required Skills

  • Ability to operate such equipment as hand and power mowers, front-end loaders, tractors, spraying equipment, and hand and power tools in a safe and effective manner
  • Considerable knowledge of standard hand and power tools and equipment used in grounds maintenance activities
  • Considerable knowledge of safety standards and precautions pertaining to the use of tools and equipment related to grounds maintenance
  • Must have a valid driver's license
