Summary of Position: The Learning eXperience Designer (LXD) shares in the responsibility of designing the whole process of effective learning experiences by applying learning science research and focusing on the learner, as outlined in the LXD Elements for IWU National and Global. They are self-motivated, creative, and thrive in challenging situations where continuous learning and collaboration are an expectation. In this position, technical skills using current software applications and competency in digital learning asset development is expected. The key responsibility for the LXD is to serve in course development teams in the role of Instructional Designer (ID) leading the design and development of a course by collaborating with project stakeholders to align efforts with quality standards, adult learning theory, expected learning outcomes, and required timelines.
Duties and Responsibilities
% - Participates in all Learning Experience Design Elements to varying degrees, depending on types of projects, interests, special assignments, and demand for services. - Researching and Sharing Effective Practices and Solutions - Experimenting with Innovation - Developing Project Plans and Applying Project Management Strategies - Designing Spaces for Learning and Building Delivery Systems - Interpreting Specific Learning Contexts - Deconstructing Learning Expectations - Designing Assessment Processes - Facilitating Instructional Approaches in Course Design - Supporting the Curation and Creation of Content - Designing Student Engagement - Testing the Learning Experience Design - Leading by Serving - (Essential)
% - Serves as the Instructional Designer in Course Development Projects. - Works directly with Academic Leaders (AL), Subject Matter Experts (SME), and Course Reviewers (CR) to ensure the timely and effective delivery of a quality course. - Initiates and facilitates development team meetings for the project, including but not limited to the kick-off, outlining, walkthroughs, consensus, and showcase meetings. - Coordinates and supports the curation and creation of all materials needed for a complete course, including Online Campus Library Services resources, Open Educational Resources (OER), digital learning assets, rubrics, assessment, supplemental material, and technology. - Provides feedback and support to align course to each standard in the Quality Course Rubric (QCR) and shares in responsibility for final QCR evaluation results. - Collaborates to meet the academic goals of the project, including data informed action plans provided by the Academic Leader. - Monitors the entire project and communicates directly with development team members regarding tasks and timelines. Communicates directly with LXD Project Manager if the project is at risk to problem-solve. - (Essential)

Education
Master’s degree in Education, Instructional Design, or a related field is required
Experience
Minimum of three (3) years of experience in instructional design or a related field Demonstrated ability to design and develop online courses Demonstrated ability to manage projects and problem-solve effectively in team environments Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities, conflict resolution styles, communication styles, and cultures Experience in higher education and online learning environments preferred
Required Skills
Strong understanding of instructional design principles and adult learning theories Proficiency in industry standards for quality online learning Knowledge of current trends and best practices in instructional design and educational technology Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Proficiency with at least one Learning Management System (LMS) Proficiency with Microsoft Office software applications and web conferencing tools/software An aptitude and interest in learning new instructional technologies (generative artificial intelligence, learning analytics, adaptive learning, accessibility tools, etc.)
