Job Title: Student Account Specialist 1

Reporting Relationship: Billing Coordinator

Unit: National & Global

Department: APS Accounting Services-NGBL

Campus Location: NGM Building, Marion, IN (Hybrid schedule working 2 days onsite; 3 days remote)

Summary of Position:    The purpose of this position is to ensure accurate billing, provide customer service, and manage balances for enrolled students.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Review changes on the student record while applying state and/or federal regulations to assess and complete the next required action 
  • Exercise a thorough understanding of a variety of payment types in order to advise students of their responsibility or payment due to assure current status 
  • Follow-up on financial aid actions on the student account, issuing refunds and collecting balances due
  • Accurately assess past due status of account to determine necessary notice to student; advise student of options for returning to current status 
  • Apply internal policies and state and/or federal regulations to evaluate an account after disbursement of financial aid to accurately calculate and request the appropriate refund within the compliance deadline 
  • Provide timely customer service to students and university departments, primarily via phone
  • Serve as back-up for all Student Account Specialists 1 
  • Perform other duties as assigned 

Qualifications: According to Indiana Wesleyan University employment policy all employees must possess a strong Christian commitment and adhere to the standards outlined in the IWU Community Lifestyle Statement.

Education

  • Associates required or work equivalent

Experience

  • Bookkeeping desired

Required Skills

  • Ability to work accurately with attention to detail and numbers
  • Analytical thinking skills
  • Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks
  • Excellent interpersonal skills relating effectively with staff, students, and other departments
  • Computer skills, primarily with Excel and web based programs
  • Ability to handle confidential information appropriately
