Summary of Position: Indiana Wesleyan University’s School of Integrated Learning and Development (SILD) seeks an innovative, mission-driven leader to serve as Department Chair and Full-Time Faculty in Secondary Education Licensure. This role oversees undergraduate and graduate licensure programs serving diverse adult learners across the Transition to Teaching (TTT) and BSIS with Secondary Concentration pathways. We’re looking for an educator who is creative in design, bold in leadership, and ready to reimagine what excellent teacher preparation looks like—especially in the online space. The ideal candidate will have expertise in a secondary content area and a proven commitment to equity, faith-informed pedagogy, and transformative adult learning. This position combines teaching, program oversight, and adjunct mentoring, with significant involvement in curriculum innovation, accreditation alignment, and digital learning strategy. Faculty in this role contribute directly to shaping the next generation of secondary educators who will lead with purpose and impact.
Duties and Responsibilities
Model and nurture a Christ-centered academic ethos through a Biblical world view
Provide academic leadership across all secondary initial licensure programs, including TTT and BSIS Secondary pathways
Inspire program innovation through creative curriculum design, data-informed decisions, and faculty collaboration
Teach fully online courses in secondary education or content area aligned to faculty expertise
Oversee curriculum and signature assessments such as the Teacher Work Sample, Diversity Case Study, and Digital Portfolio, ensuring alignment to CAEP, InTASC, and state standards
Collaborate with the Office of Clinical Experiences (OCE) to align field placements, candidate evaluations, and partnership engagement with licensure requirements
Collaborate across university departments (e.g., Admissions, Registrar, Student Success, Academic Affairs) to ensure seamless student experiences and compliance with programmatic needs
Develop, implement, and monitor Candidate Improvement Plans in accordance with program and accreditation standards
Recruit, mentor, and evaluate adjunct faculty; foster excellence in online teaching and adult learner engagement
Champion digital pedagogy and learning design that supports adult and nontraditional students
Engage in university service, strategic planning, and continuous program improvement
Maintain eligibility for academic rank and promotion, including satisfactory completing teaching load in the school, active contribution to scholarship, and leadership
Lead program innovation in response to emerging educational trends, including alternative licensure models, competency-based education (CBE), and AI-enhanced instruction
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Supervises and mentors adjunct faculty teaching within secondary education licensure programs

Education
Doctorate in Education, Secondary Education, Curriculum & Instruction, or related field required
Strong academic credentials in a secondary content area (Math preferred)
Experience
Minimum three (3) years of teaching experience under a standard secondary teaching license
Demonstrated excellence in online instruction for adult learners
Experience with program-level assessment, curriculum development, and educator preparation accreditation (CAEP, InTASC) preferred
Proven ability to lead with creativity and engage faculty and students in forward-thinking instructional strategies
Required Skills

Comfort with “outside-the-box” approaches to education reform, including the use of AI
Commitment to inclusive teaching and culturally responsive pedagogy
Skilled in digital teaching tools, learning management systems, and online community building
