Job Title: IT Network Technician
Reporting Relationship: Assistant Director of Network Services
Unit: Central Administration
Department: Information Technology-Central Administration
Campus Location: Maxwell Building, Marion, IN and any travel necessary for work needed at the regional education centers
Summary of Position: Maintain, and troubleshoot wiring infrastructure, phone network, and wireless network. Make changes to network as needed to support the needs of the university, faculty, staff, and students.
Duties and Responsibilities
Performs moves, adds, and changes as directed
Working technician for all data / voice communications projects
Performs locates of our underground network when needed
Performs wire and fiber pulls as needed
Monitors performance of all network equipment
Installs and swaps out network switches, UPS, and wireless access points as needed
Organizes and maintains all network closets. Keeps wiring in all racks orderly
Responds to all network and telecom outages and trouble reports
Keeps records and inventory of all network equipment, including shelf stock, cabling and jacks
Collaborates with other team members, as well as other IT personnel, in the documenting of and completion of telecommunication and network projects
Works with and train student workers as assigned
Travels to regional sites to perform routine, scheduled, or emergency maintenance items
Any other duties as assigned
PHYSICAL/VISUAL DEMANDS:
Requires ability to climb stairs and ladders
Ability to lift 80 pounds on a regular basis
Must be able to work in high places and in confined areas Walking to areas across campus
Requires ability to use various signal meters and hand tools
Must be able to read and comprehend instructions
Must be able to communicate well in written form, verbally, in person and via telephone or in virtual meetings
ENVIRONMENT:
Crawl spaces, plenum spaces, small closets, confined spaces, and ladders
Walking, sitting, standing, stooping, twisting, bending for periods at a time
Position may require non-scheduled after hours and weekend shifts

Education
High school diploma required
Associate degree or technical training in technology preferred
Experience
Experience with Ethernet, fiber optic, and wireless networks
Knowledge of category 6e wiring standards
Knowledge of building and electrical codes
Knowledge of fiber optic technology
Required Skills
Must be able to communicate effectively with supervisor and co-workers though verbal and written communications
Must be able to communicate effectively with clients in person, via email, telephone or in virtual meetings
Comprehension of color scheme for fiber optic terminations
Comprehension of color scheme for multi-pair cable terminations
Familiar with Microsoft Office 360 and Azure
Familiar with Cisco and HP Aruba Networking
