Summary of Position: The Director of Software Development and IT Resource Management position is primarily responsible for leading and managing the software development team to develop, maintain, and support the university’s institutional software systems. Systems include the development and integration of Ellucian’s Colleague, web forms, development, document imaging and the SharePoint portal. In addition, the director is primarily responsible for project and job management, scheduling, and reporting of developers. The director is a member of the IT Leadership Team and the IT Executive Team and participates in establishing its goals, strategies, and performance indicators for success. In addition, the director oversees the project prioritization process and IT resource capacity planning for projects included in the IT Unified Project Portfolio. The director has a close relationship with the Project Management Office (PMO) team. The director assists PMO project managers and business analysts to gain insight into resource availability and allocation and assigns resources to prioritized projects.
Duties and Responsibilities
Provide leadership for the software development team (SDT) in conjunction with technical leads. This includes staff development, vacation schedules, workload assignments, project management and establishing staff priorities
Coordinate and allocate resources to prioritized projects, change tickets, and incident tickets for the SDT in alignment with institutional priorities
Leverage existing resources as appropriate when similar projects are proposed from multiple areas to optimize and gain maximum efficiencies whenever possible
Coordinate training efforts for both Software Development staff and end-users on Colleague applications and development tools
Coordinate the relationship between Indiana Wesleyan University and Ellucian’s customer software development team on various projects
In conjunction with SDT technical lead, IT Leadership Team, PMO staff and project teams, work to schedule, monitor and update project plans in accordance with project timelines

Education
Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field
Masters degree preferred
Experience
Minimum of two (2) years of experience in managing professional technical staff
At least three (3) years of experience working with relational databases
Demonstrated ability to manage resource capacity plans in alignment with prioritized project plans and institutional strategies
Resource management experience
Ability to foster, encourage and work in a team environment
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to prioritize projects and manage resources in alignment with those priorities
Understanding of systems analysis and design
Demonstrated experience in programming and database management
Required Skills
Deep knowledge of Ellucian’s Colleague administrative software, custom reporting applications, Microsoft access, Microsoft SQL, Microsoft Office, Smartsheet or similar software
Ability to lead a team responsible for integrating and developing new and existing software, databases, and reporting solutions in web and/or desktop contexts
Knowledge of key languages including C#, UniBasic, T-SQL, HTML/XML/XSLT, CSS, and Javascript (with emphasis on jQuery and KnockoutJS). Of primary focus are Azure DevOps, ERP, CRM, Document Imaging, and Web applications
