Job Title: Prior Learning Assessment Counselor

Reporting Relationship: Assistant Director, Admissions and Graduation

Summary of Position:    The Prior Learning Assessment Counselor will be responsible for the overall administration and academic integrity of the Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) process. Assist students through the PLA process, including reviewing documentation, sending out for additional review and adding credit to the student record. Assist with partnerships to facilitate process for new PLA opportunities. Manage and maintain all PLA opportunities and offerings.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage the PLA process, including ensuring academic credibility. Oversee the submission process and the posting of academic credit to the student record
  • Actively engage with students and assess the potential for PLA; help students appropriately compile and submit PLA documentation
  • Revise and update processes and instructions as needed to keep up with innovations in PLA across the education industry
  • Maintain an adequate and appropriate faculty/administrator evaluator base who understand the importance of PLA evaluation and coordinate with faculty as review is needed
  • Manage and maintain current PLA partnerships – both with the credit being awarded and ensuring that students have been awarded the appropriate credit
  • Coordinate with Enrollment and Academic Advising teams in suggesting and following through with student PLA needs

Education

  • Bachelor degree preferred

Experience

  • Previous experience in higher education preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.
