Job Title: Ceramics Adjunct Faculty

Summary of Position:    The Division of Art + Design at Indiana Wesleyan University is seeking a qualified Ceramics Adjunct and Studio Technician to teach a variety of courses in ceramics on an “as needed” basis and to provide technical and operational support for the ceramics program. Candidate should show evidence of personal faith in Jesus Christ, comfort with Wesleyan-Arminian theology, and commitments to liberal learning and the integration of Christian faith in teaching and practice. This is an onsite position located on the Marion, Indiana campus.

Beginning Fall semester 2024.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide beginning, intermediate, and advanced course instruction in ceramics, including hand-building, wheel-throwing, glazing, and firing 
  • Prepare ceramics materials (i.e., mixing clay and glazes) for studio usage and oversee material inventory and storage 
  • Load, fire, and unload electric and gas kilns in accordance with the needs of the ceramics program and divisional service initiatives (includes nightly and weekend hours) 
  • Maintain and repair kilns and other ceramics equipment (e.g., clay mixers, pug mill, pottery wheels, etc.) as required 
  • Maintain clean, organized, and secure studio spaces 
  • Assist ceramics faculty and students with studio operations and provide technical advice upon request
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications: According to Indiana Wesleyan University employment policy all employees must possess a strong Christian commitment and adhere to the standards outlined in the IWU Community Lifestyle Statement.

Education

  • An MFA or MA degree in Ceramics or a related field (preferred)
  • BS or BA degree in Ceramics or a related field

Experience

  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of and technical proficiency in ceramics materials, processes, and techniques

Required Skills

  • Work collaboratively with ceramics and other studio faculty
  • Safely operate and perform demonstrations using studio equipment
  • Troubleshoot problems in ceramics studio operations
  • Repair ceramics machines and equipment
  • Research studio materials, processes, and techniques
