Job Title: Director of Alumni and Church Relations

Reporting Relationship: Executive Director of University Relations

Campus Location: Alumni House (Marion, Indiana)

Summary of Position:    The Director for Alumni and Church Relations ensures that the strategies employed by the Office of Alumni and Church Relations align with those of University Advancement (UA) and that the objectives of those strategies are achieved. The Director for Alumni and Church Relations annually develops a plan that articulates the strategies and objectives of Alumni and Church Relations and accounts the performance of that plan.

Position may require up to 50% travel.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of 50 key church and community leaders. Utilize key university officials and other centers of influence in fulfilling objectives
  • Work with alumni and alumni groups in planning gatherings and reunions including class reunions
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of alumni programs and events
  • Travel to churches to meet with key personnel and congregations to promote the church matching scholarship program, answer questions, and build relationships
  • Annually develop and implement a plan that outlines all strategies with aggressive but realistic measurable objectives that align with those for UA and IWU. Ensure measurable objectives can be accounted on a monthly basis
  • Provide reports on strategies and outcomes annually
  • Work closely with Advancement Services to ensure communication of programs and processes related to alumni and church relations is achieved
  • Create regular communication avenues with key churches, such as newsletters, updates, etc.
  • Work with marketing areas to create brochures and promotional pieces as needed
  • Serve as liaison to the Alumni Council/Board and Alumni Societies/Clubs

Qualifications: According to Indiana Wesleyan University employment policy all employees must possess a strong Christian commitment and adhere to the standards outlined in the IWU Community Lifestyle Statement.

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree required (ideally from IWU)
  • Graduate degree preferred

Experience

  • 5-7 years of experience in a senior external relations capacity, preferably in higher education and/or church relations

Required Skills

  • Exceptional ability to articulate the mission of IWU and church relations in writing and speech.
  • Demonstrated relational capacity among people of influence.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the features of various fundraising efforts, alumni, and donor expectations.
  • Be capable of traveling up to 50% of time, working evenings and weekends as needed.
  • This position requires the use of a cell phone and is eligible for monthly reimbursement set by IWU guidelines.
