Job Title: Simulation Lab Manager

Summary of Position:    Coordinates the daily operations of the nursing lab, supervises the secretarial, student, and RN staff, provides a well-equipped, state of the art learning lab environment for nursing students and faculty, promotes acquisition of basic and advanced nursing skills to the nursing students by the nursing faculty, collaborates with the simulation specialist, and promotes a professional and positive work environment.

Duties and Responsibilities

Simulation Laboratory

  • Supervises daily activities of the Simulation Laboratory
  • Coordinates implementation and usage of VALT (AV System)
  • Coordinates the faculty and student utilization and schedules of the Simulation Lab
  • Maintains monthly usage statistics and reports
  • Maintains a professional and positive work environment
  • Evaluates skill competencies
  • Conduct Skill Proficiency Exams (SPE) for students transferring into program
  • Supervises individual student’s practice of clinical skills and remediation of clinical skills
  • Supervises the schedule for lab classes and simulation events for both pre-licensure and graduate
  • Organize demonstration for skills for nursing students


  • Supervises subordinate staff schedules, performance and evaluations
  • Supervises the orientation of new staff to the lab
  • Supervises the hiring process for RN and student staff

Lab Supplies and Equipment

  • Coordinates the purchase of supplies and equipment for the lab and satellite sites
  • Orders, organizes, and maintains the lab inventory, supplies, and equipment
  • Coordinates with the faculty to determine supply and equipment needs for Marion campus and graduate satellite sites
  • Establishes and monitors the procedure for signing out lab equipment 


  • Collaborates with the SON Simulation Specialist and lab faculty to facilitate simulation scenarios
    • Provides staff to coordinate simulation set-up and enactment in lab and other locations (Ex. ADL House)
    • Supervise the lab calendar to facilitate simulation reservation requests
  • Collaborates with the SON Secretary regarding orders and budgeting
  • Collaborates with the SON Computer Lab Manager for computer repairs and upgrades
  • Collaborates with admissions for tours of the Lab as arranged
  • Collaborates with other IWU departments for lab related public relations, safety and security, emergency plans, chemical inventory, facilities, and required in-services
  • Attends and/or presents at nursing conferences related to simulation or lab management
  • Reports monthly to supervisor
  • Help coordinate and facilitate events such as Spotlight on Nursing/ Nursing Academic Camps
  • Review rubrics utilized for skill testing purposed with lead faculty
  • Collaborate with other departments (OT, PT) for simulation lab usage
  • Communicate with bookstore regarding simulation kit prices Superuser of simulation equipment (simulators, Pyxis Machines, IV pumps, EHR Tutor) 
  • Supervises 1 Lab secretary, 9 Lab Registered Nurses, 5 student lab assistants, Instrumentation Specialist - (Essential)

Qualifications: According to Indiana Wesleyan University employment policy all employees must possess a strong Christian commitment and adhere to the standards outlined in the IWU Community Lifestyle Statement.


BSN from accredited college required
Master’s degree in Nursing preferred


Five (5) years experience in full time direct patient care practice and/or nursing
