Summary of Position:    The Ventures & Operations Manager plays a vital role in the growth and operations of the Cincinnati and Dayton Education Centers of Indiana Wesleyan University. The Cincinnati and Dayton Education Centers are two of 12 regional education centers within the National & Global unit of Indiana Wesleyan University and primarily services adult students.

This role is suited for someone who is highly relational and has a love of problem-solving and innovation. In addition, skills related to supervising personnel, customer service, sales, building management, team building, project management, and negotiation will help make the Ventures & Operations Manager successful.

He/she assumes primary responsibility for property management of the building and staffing for daily campus operations. Supervises operational staff. Serves as the conference services manager for the Cincinnati and Dayton areas. Assists the Director with networking and relationship-building throughout the community in order to understand and meet educational needs.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ventures Project Leadership and Community Development
    • Work collaboratively with the Vice President of Enterprise Development & Regional Ventures to execute new ideas for regional center growth
    • Provide project management for emerging initiatives to ensure successful completion of innovative prototypes and final programs
    • Coordinate with the Executive Director of Regional Management and the Regional Ventures team to develop partners in the regions that will support new initiatives
    • Synchronize with the alumni office to build positive relationships with alumni that translates into active involvement and support of IWU initiatives
    • Market the IWU brand well through consistent, community-focused relationships
    • Engage with the regional community to better understand and help meet educational needs 
  • Leadership and Administrative Responsibilities
    • Lead and develop regional operational team
    • Facilitate collaborative, healthy relationships with IWU employees from other departments officing within the Cincinnati Education Center
    • Communicate in a manner that fosters collaboration
    • Manage building finances including oversight of budget
    • Seek opportunities to grow professionally and stay-up-to-date about trends in the higher education industry
    • Represent the University in a positive manner to internal and external customers through Christian conduct
    • Assist Director as needed
  • Campus Operations
    • Coordinate all aspects of building and grounds management in order to create and maintain an inviting professional and safe environment
    • Oversee & troubleshoot technology of building in cooperation with IWU Technology Services
    • Staff the building based of usage needs
    • Provide operational and spiritual support for students and faculty as needed
    • Oversee tenant relations
    • Create and maintain a culture of continuous improvement
    • Stay abreast of upcoming learning opportunities being scheduled in the building
    • Work with IWU's Emergency Management and Risk Management offices to stay up-to-date on protocols at the IWU, local, state, and federal levels
  • Conferencing Services
    • Meet or exceed conference revenue expectations
    • Oversee all aspects of conferencing
    • Build and maintain new conference guest pipeline - Network/Market/Promote new conferencing opportunities
  • Environment
    • Mostly indoor environmental conditions exist
    • This salaried position will have a regular, predictable work schedule determined in collaboration with the Director of Education (Indiana). Hours may vary according to scheduled special events and/or the need for staff coverage.
    • Some travel will be required and communicated in advance 

Qualifications: According to Indiana Wesleyan University employment policy all employees must possess a strong Christian commitment and adhere to the standards outlined in the IWU Community Lifestyle Statement.


  • Bachelor's degree strongly preferred


  • At least two (2) years of experience in supervising and managing employees
  • Customer service-related experience preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to work with minimum supervision
  • Commercial building and project management-related experience is helpful
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures

  • Leadership and team building skills (e.g., ability to train, supervise, mentor, and evaluate staff)
  • Administrative and project management skills (e.g., ability to self-start, multi-task, prioritize tasks for self and others, and attention to detail and accuracy)
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills (e.g., including budget planning, bookkeeping and budget management)
  • Networking and partnership development skills (e.g., ability to work innovatively, and collaboratively with internal and external customers)
  • Ability to problem solve, interpret instructions and data, and deal with unknown variables
  • Proficient with MS Office and comfortable using a variety of technology (e.g., audio visual equipment, teleconferencing)
