Job Title: Director for University Advancement, Communications, Events, & Projects

Reporting Relationship: Executive Director of University Relations

Summary of Position:    The Director for University Advancement, Communications, Events, & Projects works to promote the vision and mission of IWU and the University Advancement (UA) department through assignments, communications, special projects, and events that flow in and out of UA by coordinating Advancement, Alumni, Donor, and Church Relations efforts.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee special projects for UA 
  • Create and manage a UA department master calendar of events, projects, and outgoing communications 
  • Manage tickets, guests, and hospitality for UA guests attending performing arts and athletic events 
  • Evaluate sponsorship opportunities presented to UA, process approved sponsorships for payment and manage associated tasks 
  • Coordinate ticket opportunities with President's Office and the Vice President of University Advancement (VPUA) with alumni and donors 
  • Research, order, and purchase gifts for UA leadership to present to donors 
  • Travel on behalf of UA to evaluate sites for hosting events at off-campus locations 
  • Formulate, plan, manage, and execute key alumni and donor events; oversee high-level/high-quality events with excellence and provide a premier guest experience 
  • Prepare budgets for UA events, process invoices, journal entries, and expense reports 
  • Lead staff, student workers, and volunteers in key UA events 
  • Communicate key events to IWU administrators and work closely with the President's Office to assure expectations and details are shared
  • Prepare presentations for university and UA events as requested 
  • Prepare and manage invitations, communications, and website information with various departments to publicize UA and IWU events 
  • Create and implement an overall strategic communication plan for UA, including the areas of University Relations, Development, and Advancement Services 
  • Serve as primary strategist and contact for all areas of UA for newsletters, website materials, news releases, distribution vehicles, reports, etc. 
  • Coordinate and oversee department Christmas card creation and distribution
  • Other duties as assigned 

Qualifications: According to Indiana Wesleyan University employment policy all employees must possess a strong Christian commitment and adhere to the standards outlined in the IWU Community Lifestyle Statement.

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree required (IWU preferred); Graduate Degree preferred

Experience

  • Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in event planning
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in strategic communication preparation and implementation

Required Skills

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the features of various fundraising efforts, alumni, and donor expectations, and delivering quality event experiences
  • Exhibit the ability to lead a team and inspire its highest level of performance
  • Demonstrate exceptional writing and interpersonal skills
  • Proven excellence in strategic communication planning and implementation
  • Be capable of traveling up to 20% of time, working evenings, and weekends as needed, to complete event management and project responsibilities
  • This position requires the use of a cell phone and is eligible for monthly reimbursement set by IWU guidelines
