Job Title: Assistant Professor of Pastoral Theology & Homiletics

Reporting Relationship: Reports to the Division Chair for Practical Theology and the Dean of the School of Theology and Ministry

Summary of Position:    The School of Theology and Ministry on the residential campus of Indiana Wesleyan University invites applications for a full-time faculty position in Pastoral Theology with a focus in Homiletics. In addition to significant practical experience in the area, the preferred candidate will have a doctorate and expertise in a field such as homiletics, Biblical studies, Christian theology, church history, liturgical studies, etc. The preferred candidate should be ordained to the ministry of the Word, see their teaching as a service to the Church, and should love the local church. They should be in full agreement with and enthusiastic about the Wesleyan-Holiness tradition of which the university is a part, and also have a broad familiarity with a variety of models and cultures of preaching.

BEGIN DATE:
Fall of 2022 pending funding. Interviews will begin on or after February 2022.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses as assigned, especially in areas of homiletics such as Homiletics I and II, Homiletics Practicum, and Advanced Preaching.
  • Ongoing scholarship in one’s area(s) of expertise, including participation in appropriate guilds.
  • Ongoing service to the church, the university, and the community, including committee work as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: According to Indiana Wesleyan University employment policy all employees must possess a strong Christian commitment and adhere to the standards outlined in the IWU Community Lifestyle Statement.

Education

• Applicants should have a completed doctorate in homiletics or related area.

Experience

• Substantial experience in areas of preaching and service as local church pastor.
• Teaching experience is highly desirable.

Required Skills

• Excellence in knowledge and skills in relation to the appropriate field(s).
• Competence in teaching ability, along with an eagerness to improve.
• A strong testimony of personal faith and commitment to Christ is essential, along with an agreement to live according to the IWU Community Lifestyle Statement.
• An enthusiasm for the Wesleyan-Holiness tradition and ability to function well within a community hosted by The Wesleyan Church.
