Summary of Position:    The Creative Director is critical in providing leadership and oversight of all marketing creative initiatives for IWU Residential Education, Non-Residential Education, and Central Administration. This position ensures that all independent department objectives align seamlessly with the overarching IWU brand, communication strategy, and desired outcomes. The paramount responsibility of the Creative Director is to oversee the creative team and guarantee that their work aligns with the company's objectives, brand guidelines, and industry standards. Additionally, the position requires leading brainstorming sessions, developing concepts, and guiding the creative process from start to finish.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide oversight, leadership, and direction to the design teams to ensure high-quality deliverables 
  • Delegate to team members; supervise and evaluate their performance; and handle other administrative and personnel functions 
  • Direct creative strategy for IWU Marketing by conducting an ongoing process of brainstorming, designing, reviewing, and testing
  • Direct strategies for visually communicating the University’s value to core audiences, including alumni, donors, internal constituencies, and media outlets 
  • Oversee visual and narrative direction on strategic marketing campaign deliverables while ensuring cohesive articulation of campaigns across multiple mediums, including but not limited to social media and other forms of media 
  • Present creative strategies and initiatives to constituents of IWU 
  • Interface with the larger University community as the IWU Marketing representative for corporate events and cooperative efforts that require creative deliverables 
  • Serve as a strategic partner to internal clients, assessing needs to deliver impactful marketing deliverables
  • Drive high visibility for the IWU brand through storytelling and messaging
  • Ensure the integrity and consistency of IWU’s brand and reputation
  • Provide oversight and strategic direction to primary content distribution vehicles 
  • Plan and monitor the budget, optimizing resources for maximum results 
  • Ensure marketing deliverables meet agreed-upon costs, deadlines, and specifications 
  • Maintain competitive advantage and successfully implement IWU’s strategic objectives through research, best practices, and continued professional development 
  • Ability to be on call while away from the office and after hours 
  • This position supervises the IWU marketing creative team, which includes, but is not limited to, graphic design, video, and photography 

Qualifications: According to Indiana Wesleyan University employment policy all employees must possess a strong Christian commitment and adhere to the standards outlined in the IWU Community Lifestyle Statement.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Master’s degree preferred

Experience

  • Six (6+) or more years of creative direction or progressive experience in a creative department
  • Proficient in industry best-in-class development software/tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite)
  • Demonstrated experience in setting a creative direction that moved concepts into an integrated brand, marketing, and communications strategy
  • Experience leading and supervising a creative team preferred

Required Skills

  • Ability to translate strategic plans into marketing initiatives; demonstrated success with brand and marketing plan implementation
  • Ability to respond effectively to change in a creative, demanding, and fast-paced environment
  • Ability to be self-motivated and self-managing while collaborating closely with senior leadership to achieve the University vision
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize work for maximized productivity
  • Strong understanding of videography and photography strategies
  • Ability to manage a budget
  • Excellent ability to collaborate successfully with a variety of constituencies
  • Ability to travel occasionally
  • Understanding of and commitment to the spiritual mission of the University
