Summary of Position:    The Director of Marketing Technologies and Digital Experience is responsible for managing the team(s) which provide technology-related service and innovation for Central Administration which supports IWU-Marion, IWU-National & Global, and Wesley Seminary. This leadership role provides oversight and direction for the MarTech stack; administration and support for all University web properties, direction around digital technologies, reporting, and analytical tools; management of IWU’s search engine optimization efforts, and the administration of tools (outsourced or internal) utilized to improve the user experience.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Team
    • Work closely with senior leadership to accomplish key goals and initiatives
    • Lead direct report(s) to create and manage a high-performance team
    • Work cross-functionally with units and departments to ensure website and digital experience is being maximized
  • Systems, Technology, and Data
    • Oversee onboarding for any new technology and software interacting with the website and being utilized by marketing and enrollment to ensure seamless integration through the user experience
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to use data-driven insights to deliver strategic improvements across web properties, including optimized consumer experience, user journey, and enrollment funnel to drive performance and measure KPIs
    • Collaborates on the development of innovative, segment-relevant omnichannel audience experiences and personalization strategies, customizing messages to multiple target customer segments and personas
    • Oversee and monitor website development, redesign initiatives, and manage regular maintenance and updates
    • Develop and maintain a process to manage content updates done by units, departments, or subject matter experts
    • Ensure compliance with regulatory governance for all digital marketing and enrollment initiatives, including websites and any web or digital form
    • Direct the website user experience (UX) and search engine optimization (SEO) efforts for IWU web pages
    • Initiate, design, and lead efforts in building a high-performance, data-driven, result oriented web team
    • Collaborate on digital advertising with marketing and enrollment teams from IWU-Marion, IWU-National & Global, and Wesley Seminary to ensure appropriate tracking attribution is done for reporting to optimize UX and monitor overall website usability
    • Optimize the customer experience through the integration of communication systems and technology to create a seamless user experience and to create and maximize our competitive advantage
    • Work independently and on cross-functional teams to develop and nurture partner/vendor relationships related to MarTech to enhance the quality of user experience
    • Serve as a liaison with University IT related to website and digital experience on behalf of the external affairs, marketing, and enrollment teams

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in a related discipline (Data Science, Marketing, or Analytics)
  • Master’s degree preferred


  • Strong background with a digital experience across all practice areas including search, web, digital advertising, and marketing; experience developing state-of-the-art website experiences
  • Five (5+) years of experience in web development and content management or a combination of education and experience
  • Three (3+) years of leadership experience higher education preferred
  • Expertise with CMS, SEO, UX/UI design, web analytics, micro-experiences, and related web ecosystem
  • Experience with CRM (Salesforce/Slate) and CMS (strongly preferably Cascade) platforms
  • Experience with statistical tools and other data visualization tools
  • Proficient in using fundamental web tools and technology: Google Tag Manager, Google
  • Search Console, Google Analytics, behavioral data tools (CrazyEgg, etc), content optimization platform (SEMRush, SurferSEO, or similar), HTML, CSS, Javascript
  • Experience with testing platforms: Adobe Target, Optimizely, etc.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to convey analytics concepts and analysis to non-experts
  • Ability to travel as required to meet with vendors and service providers and to represent IWU at designated conferences, meetings, and events
  • Skilled communicator with excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills, coupled with highly developed interpersonal skill
