Job Title: Copywriter & Social Media Manager

Summary of Position:    The Copywriter and Social Media Manager is responsible for implementing the National & Global (N&G) component of Indiana Wesleyan University's content and social media strategy, developing high quality, on-brand written content that increases brand awareness, generates inbound traffic, and encourages enrollment. The Copywriter and Social Media Manager uses storytelling to engage N&G audiences across social platforms and mediums. This role supports the Marketing Department's Communication Team by executing the content strategy, ensuring consistency in voice, and cultivating a social media referral network for IWU.

Duties and Responsibilities


  • Provides written and editorial support with high quality, on-brand content to National & Global administrative and marketing teams, including (but not limited to) blogs, articles, ad copy, video/radio scripts, email, print, and web content. 
  • Serves as a gatekeeper for consistency in voice and tone across marketing content, including maintaining the University's style guide and adhering to its guidelines. 
  • Assists the Assistant Director of Communication with executing communication plans and initiatives. 

Social Media:

  • Manages and executes social media strategy, campaigns, and day-to-day activities, creating engaging content for a wide variety of social media outlets and coordinating with stakeholders across IWU to ensure effectiveness on various platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and other similar community sites. 
  • Ensures social media tools are current, monitoring trends in social media tools, measuring the impact of social media using effective benchmarks, and reporting insights to the greater marketing team in order to maximize results. 
  • Becomes an advocate of IWU in social media and community spaces, engages in dialogues and answering questions where appropriate. 
  • Networks with other social media content coordinators across the University to encourage shared communication across channels and to create processes and training that help create engaging, on-brand content. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: According to Indiana Wesleyan University employment policy all employees must possess a strong Christian commitment and adhere to the standards outlined in the IWU Community Lifestyle Statement.


Bachelor's degree required, preferably in marketing, communications, writing, English or a related discipline.


3-5 years of experience writing, editing, and strategic communication experience in a professional setting, preferably in higher education.

Required Skills

  • Experience or knowledge in copywriting and editing required, with excellent writing, editing, and communication skills, knowledge of grammar and style guidelines, as well as SEO principles.
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of social media platforms and their respective users (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.) and how they can be utilized to accomplish marketing objectives.
  • Ability to effectively communicate information and ideas in written and verbal format.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.
