Job Title: Occupational Therapist Assistant / COTA - The Wellness Center (Part-Time/Temporary)

Reporting Relationship: AVP of Healthcare Services

Unit: IWU-Marion

Department: The Wellness Center-IWU Marion

Campus Location: The Wellness Center, Marion, IN

Summary of Position:    Occupational Therapist Assistant / COTA needed for part-time, temporary coverage for eight (8) weeks beginning early May with potential for permanent future part-time and/or full-time placement with The Wellness Center. This position will have clear path of communication with attending OT on patient treatment, response, and continuous improvements to meet occupational goals. In addition, providing compassionate and welcoming attitudes to patients, families, and staff.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates initiative and completes assignments while observing established departmental policies, procedures and clinical privileges 
  • Provides quality patient care by following accepted protocols under the direction and supervision of the occupational therapist 
  • Informs the attending occupational therapist about the patient’s response to treatment 
  • Identifies special patient problems and immediately reports them to the occupational therapist
  • Identifies safety hazards and emergency situations and initiates corrective action. Records appropriate daily notes of treatment 
  • Strives for continuous improvement of clinical skills through a review of literature, in-service training and continuing education
  • Displays a cooperative, compassionate and considerate attitude with patients, families and staff - (Essential)
  • He/she performs other duties as assigned
  • Occasionally will need to request supplies, equipment and materials as needed to carry out appropriate services & assists with the orientation of new OT personnel 

Qualifications: According to Indiana Wesleyan University employment policy all employees must possess a strong Christian commitment and adhere to the standards outlined in the IWU Community Lifestyle Statement.

Education

  • Graduate of a curriculum of Occupational Therapy approved by the AOTA or a graduate of a foreign school of Occupational Therapy recognized by a member organization of the World Confederation for Occupational Therapy
  • Meets legal requirements of the State of Indiana for professional licensure

Experience

  • Demonstrates experience, ability and education to provide Occupational Therapy

Required Skills

  • The physical demands of the position includes lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs. occasionally, 35 lbs. frequently and 16 lbs. constantly from varied heights (floor to overhead); occasional to frequent pushing, pulling, bending squatting, reaching (overhead and forward)
  • Kneeling, climbing, balancing, standing, walking and sitting; manual and finger dexterity for grasping, handling and manipulating; good vision, hearing and sensation
  • Use of both hands and arms are required to perform with dexterity, various tasks
