Summary of Position:    The Content Strategist plays a key role in communicating Indiana Wesleyan University’s brand identity through high-quality, timely content. This position supports external brand awareness, strengthens internal morale, and advances student enrollment by creating audience-centered messaging and stories.

Blending content strategy, marketing copywriting, article writing, and editing, the Content Strategist helps shape IWU’s voice across multiple platforms. This role produces compelling articles and story-driven content, and also writes persuasive copy that supports recruitment and institutional priorities across email journeys, digital campaigns, web and landing pages, and other enrollment-focused communications. The Content Strategist reviews and edits assigned content to support clarity, accuracy, and style consistency.

The strategist develops strategic content and fosters relationships to amplify IWU’s brand, mission, and enrollment goals. This role supports the Marketing Department’s Communications Team by executing communication plans and helping maintain a consistent voice across all mediums.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Creates marketing content for internal and external communications, from conception to execution and distribution, including campaign copy, email journeys, web/landing page copy, promotional assets, and scripts for marketing use
  • Writes and refines marketing copy that supports enrollment and brand goals (e.g., email journeys, campaign messaging, web/landing page copy, headlines/CTAs, and promotional copy), aligning with campaign direction provided by marketing leadership while maintaining IWU voice and tone
  • Writes and edits articles and blog content for IWU channels, translating interviews and source material into clear, engaging stories aligned with institutional priorities
  • Partners with marketing and enrollment teams to support campaign execution by developing copy variations, adapting messaging for specific audiences/channels, and coordinating revisions through approvals
  • Collaborates with internal stakeholders to gather information, source stories, and build morale among students, staff, faculty, administration, and alumni
  • Applies and supports the University’s style guide and brand standards by reviewing and editing assigned content for voice, tone, grammar, and AP style

Qualifications: According to Indiana Wesleyan University employment policy all employees must possess a strong Christian commitment and adhere to the standards outlined in the IWU Community Lifestyle Statement.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in marketing, communications, writing, English, journalism, or a related discipline

Experience

  • Demonstrated strength in marketing copywriting and storytelling, with the ability to write both story-driven content and audience-centered marketing copy
  • Experience writing and editing standard articles and blog content, including interviewing sources and drafting publish-ready stories
  • Proven ability to tailor content for different audiences and platforms (e.g., articles, emails, web copy, social media, and campaigns)
  • Experience collaborating with stakeholders to gather information, clarify goals, and deliver high-quality copy on deadline
  • A collaborative mindset and a willingness to learn in a team-oriented environment
  • Ability to engage effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures

Required Skills

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write informative articles and persuasive marketing copy with clear calls-to-action
  • Familiarity with AP style and comfort applying a style guide and brand standards
  • Strong editing and proofreading skills with attention to grammar, flow, structure, and style consistency
  • Effective storyteller with the ability to capture organizational voice and support institutional and enrollment goals
  • Strong project management, organization, and deadline discipline
  • A clear understanding of and commitment to the Christ-centered mission and values of Indiana Wesleyan University
