Job Title: Visiting Professor of Practical Theology

Reporting Relationship: Academic Chair, School of Theology & Ministry

Department: School of Theology & Ministry, Marion Campus

Campus Location: Noggle Christian Ministries

Summary of Position:    The School of Theology and Ministry on the residential campus of Indiana Wesleyan University invites applications for a full-time visiting faculty position in Practical Theology, to commence in July 2026. The employment contract is for one year with possibility of renewal through December 2028. Ideal candidates will show evidence of personal faith in Jesus Christ, full agreement with Wesleyan doctrine, and a commitment to liberal learning as well as a fully integrated life of faith and work, embracing God’s purpose individually and collaboratively.

Candidates should show substantial experience in full-time ministry in the local church and/or missions, demonstrated excellence in teaching at the collegiate level, and fully value women at all levels of leadership in the church. The ideal candidate should see their teaching as a service to the Church and should love the local church.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Teaching courses as assigned including practical theology and general education 
  • Oversight of undergraduate student ministry internships. Oversight of residencies for students enrolled in the accelerated graduate ministry program. Duties will include working with churches and local pastoral staff 
  • Ongoing service to the university, the church, and the community. 
  • Other duties as assigned including committee responsibilities.

Qualifications: According to Indiana Wesleyan University employment policy all employees must possess a strong Christian commitment and adhere to the standards outlined in the IWU Community Lifestyle Statement.

Education

  • Applicants should have at least a master’s degree in an area of ministry, although a doctorate in a relevant area is preferred
  • Applicants should also be ordained or seeking ordination in the Wesleyan Church or another holiness denomination

Experience

  • Substantial ministerial experience
  • Teaching experience is highly desirable

Required Skills

  • Excellence in knowledge and skills in relation to the appropriate field(s)
  • Competence in teaching ability, along with an eagerness to improve
  • A strong testimony of personal faith and commitment to Christ is essential, along with an agreement to live according to the IWU Community Lifestyle Statement
  • An enthusiasm for the Wesleyan tradition and ability to function well within a community hosted by The Wesleyan Church
