Job Title: Assistant Director of Annual Giving

Summary of Position:    The Assistant Director of Annual Giving (ADAG) position is responsible for managing and growing a comprehensive and strategic annual giving program. As the ADAG, you will play a key role in developing and optimizing digital strategies to boost online donations and enhance supporter engagement. Your work will be crucial in driving donor acquisition, retention, and satisfaction in support of Indiana Wesleyan University’s (IWU) fundraising goals by helping to develop and implement cultivation and stewardship strategies for our alumni and friends. As an integral part of the Advancement team, you will help develop a comprehensive strategy to increase revenue through online channels and direct mail appeals. You will stay up to date on digital fundraising trends and tools, as well as key performance indicators throughout the industry and utilize various communication channels including in-person, phone, texting, web, video, and other digital tools.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • From concept to completion, manage and execute all details of IWU’s direct mail appeals, including writing, segmenting, creating the direct response plan, creating mailing lists, and working with appropriate areas on the layout, package design, and proof reviews
  • Create strategies and develop customized supporter-centric approaches that achieve high conversion, retention, and acquisition to move supporters through the donor journey 
  • Determine the appropriate timing, spacing, solicitation tactics, and vehicles for annual giving appeals based on prospect research, studies of current and emerging philanthropic attitudes, analyses of best practices in higher education, experimentation, and personal experience 
  • Provide regular reporting and analysis of annual giving results. Use this data to continuously adjust and improve annual giving programs 
  • Manage the promotion of other advancement initiatives such as the license plate program, new employee orientations, Give Day, employer matching gift program, and other crowdfunding campaigns that may arise 
  • Help manage class fundraising efforts for key reunion years 
  • Identify opportunities to leverage new technologies and emerging channels 
  • Help set the annual giving goals and meet those goals 
  • Implement and monitor testing, metrics, and analysis of digital fundraising and constituent cultivation campaigns 
  • Ensure all digital fundraising content goes through the appropriate review process to verify accuracy of messaging and brand alignment 
  • Work with the Communication and Marketing team on the administration and development of website and social channels as related to fundraising efforts 
  • Plan and execute digital fundraising campaigns across email, social media, and websites 
  • Stay updated on the latest digital fundraising tools and technologies 
  • Monitor and steward donor inquiries and feedback through digital channels 
  • Perform other duties as assigned 

Qualifications: According to Indiana Wesleyan University employment policy all employees must possess a strong Christian commitment and adhere to the standards outlined in the IWU Community Lifestyle Statement.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Nonprofit Management, or related fields preferred

Experience

  • Experience in digital fundraising or digital marketing, ideally within the nonprofit sector
  • Familiarity with reporting, testing, and optimization tools including Google Analytics, Facebook Analytics, and others
  • Experience with multichannel digital fundraising

Required Skills

  • Must be comfortable making phone calls, reaching out via email to effectively communicate with external and internal constituents
  • Ownership mentality with ability to work independently seeing tasks through to completion
  • Ability to work well both as part of a team and independently in a fast-paced, team-oriented, and goal-driven environment
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks that have competing deadlines
  • Strong copy writing and editing abilities
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite (including Excel, Outlook, and Word)
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends as required for special events
