Summary of Position:    Indiana Wesleyan University seeks applications for a Science of Reading Program Director in the School of Integrated Learning and Development, National and Global campus.

The successful candidate will join our team of educators to lead efforts in reviewing and revising our curriculum to align thoroughly with the Science of Reading. This position will primarily focus on Science of Reading for initial and advanced licensure candidates in Early Childhood, Elementary, Exceptional Needs, and Reading Specialist and Literacy programs. This is a three-year grant-funded position.

Applicants should show commitments to the integration of Christian faith in teaching and practice.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses related to the Science of Reading and Literacy
  • Leading efforts in reviewing and revising curriculum to align thoroughly with Science of Reading 
  • Providing professional development and consultation for faculty responsible for courses related to the Science of Reading
  • Stay abreast of current research and best practices in reading instruction 
  • Leading efforts with state and accreditation agencies for approval of programs related to the Science of Reading 

Qualifications: According to Indiana Wesleyan University employment policy all employees must possess a strong Christian commitment and adhere to the standards outlined in the IWU Community Lifestyle Statement.

Education

  • Doctoral degree in Education, Reading, Literacy, or related field
  • Valid license in Early Childhood, Elementary, P-12, and/or Exceptional Needs Education
  • At least 18 graduate credits in Reading
  • Evidence of training in LETRS, Orton-Gillingham, IDA, and/or other Science of Reading specific programs

Experience

  • At least three (3) years of successful classroom teaching experience required
  • Expertise in Science of Reading required
  • Experience as a literacy coach or curriculum leader preferred
  • Experience in curriculum development and revision preferred
  • Experience in leading professional development preferred
