The Assistant Director of The Learning Center oversees the daily functions of The Learning Center (TLC). This position will oversee the hiring, recruiting, training, evaluation, and visioning of academic tutoring. The Assistant Director supervises desk workers and helps cultivate an atmosphere of hospitality and organization at the front desk. This position will also teach sections of the tutor training course. The Assistant Director will assist in developing and implementing preventative and responsive programs in the TLC to promote student success for IWU students. This role reports to the Director of The Learning Center and Academic Supports and serves on The Center for Academic Thriving team with the goal of supporting IWU-Marion’s students, improving the student experience, and increasing students thriving and institutional retention.

The position will provide instruction at IWU’s residential campus within the DeVoe Division of Business. Hospitality has been identified as a priority in the university’s strategic plan, with the construction and launch of a new hotel on campus and the development of an associated academic program as projects in support of that priority. The Hospitality Management faculty member will play a key role in the development of coursework for the new major, facilitate launch of the academic program, and work closely with the university owned hotel. The individual in this role acts as a shepherd for Wesley Seminary students. It is expected that the position will proactively reach out to students to ascertain their academic, physical, financial, emotional, and spiritual health and how these forms of health are influencing their ability to succeed at Wesley Seminary. This position will then work with the various seminary and university departments to support the student when these areas negatively affect the student’s ability to succeed.
