Summary of Position: The Graduate Assistant must be committed to the Lordship of Christ, continually seeking personal growth through the regular practice of spiritual disciplines and creating spiritually rich environments for to do the same. The Graduate Assistant will support the IWU Athletics mission of developing students’ Spiritual Growth, Academic Achievement, Leadership Development, and Athletic Excellence. The Graduate Assistant must embody and promote the Wildcat Way biblical values of Kindness, Humility, Belonging, Integrity, and Courage in their life, work, and interaction with others.
Duties and Responsibilities
Provide instruction to student-athletes by showing techniques and working to improve performance during practice and games
Provide feedback on individual workouts and group practice
Assist in recruiting new team members and retaining current players
Responsible for recording video footage and assessing plays
Oversee team travel
Prepare for games
Identify skills and weaknesses
Fulfill other duties as needed
Qualifications: According to Indiana Wesleyan University employment policy all employees must possess a strong Christian commitment and adhere to the standards outlined in the IWU Community Lifestyle Statement.
Education
Bachelor's degree required
Current enrollment in a graduate program
Experience
Competitive playing and/or youth coaching experience
Certifications: Sport-specific certifications preferred
Required Skills
Demonstrated Christian faith and commitment to IWU’s mission and values
Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with NAIA, institutional, and legal standards (HIPAA, FERPA, etc.)
Ability to work effectively with diverse populations
Commitment to ongoing professional and personal development
