Summary of Position: The Assistant Vice President (AVP) for Strategic Leadership and Followership Excellence supports the Vice President of Academic Affairs (VPAA) in advancing the mission of the College of Adult and Professional Studies (CAPS). This role is pivotal in shaping the student experience, ensuring marketplace relevance, and fostering long-term learner relationships. The AVPAA provides strategic leadership-followership for initiatives that enhance academic quality, operational efficiency, and innovative learning experiences, with a central focus on developing leadership and followership systems and capabilities within the adult education context.
Duties and Responsibilities
Faculty and Program Enhancement
Foster a high-performance team culture among faculty, promoting collaboration across departments and disciplines
Mentor faculty and oversee the onboarding of new faculty through faith integration and other initiatives
Encourage and support faculty in their professional and scholarly contributions, facilitating opportunities for research and publication
Oversee CAPS undergraduate general education and foundational courses, ensuring curriculum quality and instructional delivery meet institutional standards and student learning needs
Innovation and Industry Intelligence
In collaboration with the VPAA and Chancellor, identify trends, technologies, and innovations to maintain the distinctiveness and relevance of CAPS general education efforts
Guide responsible implementation of Artificial Intelligence tools and processes to improve academic systems and student learning within general education and foundational courses
Strategic Initiative Development and Incubation
Provide academic direction for the creation of non-credit certificate programs or other credentials that expand the University’s reach
Enhance the student journey by diagnosing and solving problems that impact students, staff, faculty, and administration
Implement solutions that drive efficiency and excellence, leveraging cross-departmental collaboration to optimize student outcomes
Promote a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence through collaborative efforts with administration, faculty, and staff
Other Responsibilities
Perform other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Academic Affairs

Education
Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration; Organizational Leadership, the Liberal Arts or a related field (required)
Terminal degree in Higher Education Administration; Organizational Leadership, the Liberal Arts or a related field (preferred)
Experience
Proven leadership of academic teams and faculty development
Demonstrated success implementing technology innovations in higher education
Supervision of academic and professional staff
Expertise in program assessment and evaluation
Budget management for academic initiatives
Required Skills
Excellent organizational skills and the ability to set priorities in a fast-paced, multi-task work environment
Excellent written, oral, interpersonal, and communication skills
Ability to attend to details with a high level of accuracy
Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
Communication and collaboration with senior academic leaders, external partners, and clients
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from a diverse range of communities and cultures
