Summary of Position: The Director of Student Engagement plays a strategic role within The Center for Academic Thriving and across the residential campus. This role helps to create and implement strategic initiatives that help students thrive in their first year and beyond. The role will be responsible for collaborating with the Dean of Student Thriving to help improve student thriving and enhance retention. In partnership with faculty and student development staff, the Director oversees a comprehensive first-year experience that will facilitate student success, foster a sense of community and increase retention.
Duties and Responsibilities
Provide oversight to a comprehensive first-year experience program aimed at helping students thrive during their early college years, with special attention to students at risk, on academic probation and those traditionally underserved by the university system
Partner with faculty and staff on special projects that support the first-year and overall student experience
Work collaboratively with peers within Academic Affairs, Student Development, Enrollment, and Marketing on implementation, program delivery and assessment of programs designed to enhance student thriving
Assist in the development of reports and analysis of data to help assess programs and make necessary adjustment
Teach a course within the first-year experience program, as needed
Be a resource for first-year students considered at high-risk to leave the university through tools such as the early alert system
Qualifications: According to Indiana Wesleyan University employment policy all employees must possess a strong Christian commitment and adhere to the standards outlined in the IWU Community Lifestyle Statement.
Education
Masters degree in higher education, student development or related area
Experience
Three to five (3-5) years of experience in co-curricular education (preferably in student activities/programming or student thriving)
