Summary of Position: The Spiritcare Specialist at IWU National & Global is a vital role that bridges spiritual care with academic support. This part-time position is responsible for fostering a nurturing spiritual environment for employees and students in conjunction with existing Spiritcare leaders. The Spiritcare Specialist will work closely with the Director of Chaplain Ministries (Spiritcare), and Spiritcare team members to plan and execute employee chapels, encourage spiritual growth through prayer meetings, and provide care and support by assisting with sessions. This role is crucial in maintaining the university's commitment to spiritual growth and holistic education.
Duties and Responsibilities
Collaborate with the director and team members in planning and hosting engaging employee chapels
Promote and facilitate regular prayer meetings to strengthen the spiritual community
Offer prayer support addressing spiritual and emotional needs
Provide resources for spiritual growth and personal development
Create and maintain spiritual resources tailored to the needs of online learners
Support development and testing of online chapels and faith-engagement activities for students
Test the option to organize and lead virtual spiritual retreats and workshops for the online student community
Respond to crisis situations, providing pastoral care and coordinating additional support as needed
Contribute to the university's mission by participating in strategic planning related to spiritual life initiatives
Qualifications: According to Indiana Wesleyan University employment policy all employees must possess a strong Christian commitment and adhere to the standards outlined in the IWU Community Lifestyle Statement.
Education
Master’s degree in Divinity, Theology, or related field preferred
Ordination or equivalent credential in a recognized faith tradition
Experience
Minimum of five (5) years of experience in chaplaincy, preferably in higher education or online learning environments
Demonstrated experience in developing and leading spiritual programs for diverse audiences
Prior experience in counseling or providing pastoral care in a multicultural setting
Familiarity with online education platforms and virtual community building
Track record of successfully integrating faith-based initiatives into academic settings
Required Skills
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to connect with individuals from diverse backgrounds
Proficiency in using digital platforms for ministry and community engagement
Excellent organizational and time management skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
Cultural competence and sensitivity to the needs of a diverse student and employee population
Familiarity with mental health first aid and crisis intervention techniques
Strong public speaking and presentation skills for both in-person and virtual settings
Proficiency in using office software and learning management systems
