Summary of Position: The Indiana Wesleyan University Division of Music + Theatre seeks a staff accompanist to support the division through collaboration with private studio instruction, ensembles, academic courses, and theatrical productions. The ability to sight-read and/or learn music quickly in a variety of styles is essential, along with strong communication skills and a collaborative spirit. (For part-time staff accompanists, the load will not exceed 25 hours per week including the rehearsal time.)
Duties and Responsibilities
Accompanying weekly lessons and rehearsal for upper-level music students
Accompanying senior recitals, Young Performer Series recitals, Upper Divisional examinations, juries, Departmental recitals and freshman auditions
Accompanying rehearsals for any musical or opera production
Playing for choral or any other ensemble groups when necessary
Working in cooperation with the accompanist coordinator of the school
Qualifications: According to Indiana Wesleyan University employment policy all employees must possess a strong Christian commitment and adhere to the standards outlined in the IWU Community Lifestyle Statement.
Education
The candidate must hold a minimum of Bachelor’s degree in piano performance (Master’s preferred), have excellent sight-reading ability, and experience in collaborative piano
Experience
Experience accompanying at the undergraduate level is a must
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures
