Job Title: Vice President for Student Development & Athletics

Summary of Position:    The responsibilities of the Vice President for Student Development and Athletics includes hiring, training and supervising professional staff, overseeing a healthy annual budget, and providing vision and leadership for the Student Development and Athletics teams.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as the designated Chief Student Development Officer 
  • Provide daily leadership, vision, resource provision, support and empowerment to dynamic and engaged teams in Athletics, Center for Student Success, Developmental Learning, Life Calling and Career, Residential Learning, Student Engagement, and Wildcat Health Clinic 
  • Provide general leadership and vision for a collaborative team of professionals and paraprofessionals through the hiring, training and direct supervision of key administrators 
  • Supervise an Administrative Assistant who supports the budget accountability process and overall secretarial functions for the Vice President 
  • Serve as a member of the President’s Cabinet and work directly and collaboratively with the leadership team 
  • Oversee a healthy annual budget and closely supervise budget officers to direct and monitor spending as well as supervising profit centers by creating proper systems and processes to account for all revenues and expenditures 
  • Provide policy suggestions and recommendations for the college catalog and student handbook 
  • Serve as Co-Chair of the Dean’s Council in partnership with the Vice President of Academic Affairs 
  • Serve on the CAS Faculty Student Life Council and the Residential Student Engagement and Retention team (RiSER) 
  • Empower team members, focus on continual training, and create ways to be a financial and creative resource to team members 
  • Speak and represent the University as requested, attend and present at professional organization conferences 
  • Attend and participate in IWU Board of Trustee meetings 
  • Serve as the Administrative Chair for the Student Life, Retention, & Athletics Committee of the Board of Trustees 
  • Coordinate special programs and requests of the President
  • Ensure the training and development of all staff regarding the judicial affairs processes to create a fair and consistent system 
  • Conduct regular staff meetings, regular individual meetings, and create an office environment of collaboration and excellence 
  • Serve as the liaison for decisions affecting the use of the Barnes Student Center and all athletic facilities 
  • Counsel with students and refer as necessary regarding spiritual, personal, emotional or academic problems 
  • Maintain a professional image and manner consistent with Indiana Wesleyan University’s mission and goals 
  • Support the policies of the student handbook with integrity 
  • Live in full compliance with university employee lifestyle values and guidelines with integrity 
  • Supervisory responsibility includes Dean of Students & Title IX Coordinator, Dean of Spiritual Formation & Campus Pastor, Associate Dean of Student Involvement, Dean of Center for Student Success, Associate Dean of Life Calling and Career, Clinical Director of Wildcat Health Clinic, Director of Athletics, and Administrative Assistant 

Qualifications: According to Indiana Wesleyan University employment policy all employees must possess a strong Christian commitment and adhere to the standards outlined in the IWU Community Lifestyle Statement.

Education

  • The successful candidate will possess either an earned doctorate (related to the field of student affairs administration) with a minimum of four (4) years of related experience, or a master’s degree in the field with a minimum of six to eight (6-8) years of specific experience. If master’s only, candidate will agree to pursue and complete terminal degree within seven (7) years.

Experience

  • Minimum of four to eight (4-8) years of relevant collegiate administrative experience
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty and staff

Required Skills

  • Embrace and articulate the mission of Indiana Wesleyan University and be in harmony with the doctrine and practices of the Wesleyan Church
  • Personal values must be impeccable and rooted in strong moral and ethical character
