Job Title: Graduate Assistant Head Men's Running Club & Assistant Coach

Reporting Relationship: Brody Beiler

Campus Location: Recreation & Wellness Center, Marion, IN

Summary of Position:    A Graduate Assistant Coach must align with the vision of the Head Coach, and report to and work alongside them to accomplish that vision. The successful candidate must have a heart for teaching the sports of Cross Country and Track & Field, and possess a strong desire to integrate their personal faith and the truths of Christianity in their work.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist the Head Coach to develop, manage, and successfully coach, to include scheduling, recruiting, equipment management as well as any other work as assigned by the Head Coach 
  • Serve as the Head Coach for the Running Club as assigned 
  • Manage and operate within budget parameters, without exception. Submit all receipts and budget reports on time as directed by Director of Athletics 
  • Ensure adherence with established institutional compliance rules, policies, and procedures as well as ethical standards of behavior 
  • Ensure satisfactory academic performance of student-athletes 
  • Ensure the spiritual, physical, emotional, and social welfare of student-athletes 
  • Responsible for successful coaching, to include maximizing the team's potential/abilities, keeping athletes eligible, supporting the spiritual development of each player, and retaining athletes through graduation 
  • Assist in all department fund-raising and booster events as assigned in accordance with the University 
  • Learn, understand, and adhere to all Crossroads League and NAIA guidelines and maintain up-to-date rosters and other information keeping compliance as a first priority 
  • Participate in long-range planning and assessment, attend all departmental training sessions and meetings, read and comply with all departmental policy manual
  • Assist in planning and implementing practice sessions as assigned 
  • Request, monitor, and oversee any budgetary responsibilities as assign 
  • Counsel with students and refer as necessary regarding spiritual, personal, emotional or academic problems 
  • Maintain a professional image and manner consistent with Indiana Wesleyan University's mission and goals 
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor and create an environment of quality and innovation 
  • Work within Athletic Department to foster an environment of cooperation and unity 

Qualifications: According to Indiana Wesleyan University employment policy all employees must possess a strong Christian commitment and adhere to the standards outlined in the IWU Community Lifestyle Statement.

Education

  • Must have an earned Bachelor’s degree

Experience

  • Must demonstrate a mature and expressive Christian faith commitment
  • Must have a strong desire to grow in supervising and motivating others
  • Must be creative and innovative; discerning and a thorough planner
  • Must subscribe to the principles and lifestyle of the Wesleyan Church
