Summary of Position:    The Assistant Director of Career Labs plays a pivotal leadership role in overseeing and advancing Indiana Wesleyan University's (IWU) Mobile Career Lab initiative. This role ensures that career coaching and skill-building resources are accessible to individuals across Indiana and nearby regions, empowering participants to thrive in today’s workforce.

As the second-in-command for Career Lab operations, the Assistant Director will provide strategic oversight, support outreach growth, and coordinate day-to-day operations. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills, a collaborative mindset, and the flexibility to manage a mobile, multi-location program.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership & Development
    • Serve as the second-in-command to the Executive Director of Workforce Engagement, acting as the primary point of leadership for the Mobile Career Labs in their absence
    • Support and execute strategic career and education coaching models that align with workforce demands and the unique needs of diverse communities
    • Drive program strategy to enhance operational growth while fostering cross-departmental collaboration that contributes to overall program funding and sustainability
  • Mobile Career Lab Operations
    • Oversee day-to-day operations of the Mobile Career Lab, including staffing, scheduling, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality services across events
    • Actively drive and operate Mobile Career Lab vehicles, ensuring timely and safe transportation of resources to designated sites
    • Coordinate logistics, including setup and execution of events, while managing onsite technology and resource distribution
    • Provide direct career coaching during Mobile Career Lab events to empower participants with career-building strategies and tools
    • Travel regionally with weekly travel requirements ranging from 20% to 50%, primarily across Indiana, with occasional travel to Kentucky and Ohio
  • Community Engagement & Collaboration
    • Develop and maintain partnerships with local employers, workforce agencies, and community organizations to expand program outreach
    • Work collaboratively across IWU departments and with external partners to enhance the Mobile Career Lab's capabilities
    • Foster cross-collaboration efforts to support initiatives that contribute to program funding and growth
  • Team Leadership & Training
    • Lead the training and supervision of Mobile Career Lab staff, equipping them to deliver exceptional participant experiences
    • Provide continuous team support, ensuring alignment with program goals and IWU’s mission
  • Program Management & Reporting
    • Track and analyze program metrics (e.g., engagement rates, enrollment data) to evaluate impact and outcomes
    • Contribute to program reports and presentations for stakeholders, highlighting achievements and areas for development

Qualifications: According to Indiana Wesleyan University employment policy all employees must possess a strong Christian commitment and adhere to the standards outlined in the IWU Community Lifestyle Statement.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Master’s degree preferred in Workforce Development, Education, Business, or a related field

Experience

  • Minimum three to five (3-5) years of experience in:
  • Project Management for multi-site or mobile programs
  • Building and maintaining community partnerships
  • Workforce development, education coaching, or career advising roles

Required Skills

  • Technical Proficiency
    • Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) for effective document creation, data management, and professional communication
    • Microsoft Excel proficiency, including data analysis, creating and managing spreadsheets, using basic formulas and functions, text-wrapping, and developing charts for reporting and decision-making purposes
    • Proficient in the proper usage of Microsoft Outlook email, including managing calendars, organizing inboxes, scheduling meetings, adding attachments, and ensuring timely and professional correspondence
    • Experience with CRM systems such as Salesforce to manage relationships, track engagements, and analyze program outcomes
    • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Teams, including the ability to send messages, join meetings, share files, and navigate channels for effective communication and collaboration
  • Operational & Driving Skills
    • Ability and willingness to drive all Mobile Career Lab vehicles
    • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
    • Comfortable with regional travel (20-50%) across Indiana, with occasional travel to Kentucky and Ohio
  • Personal Attributes
    • Exceptional organizational and logistical skills for managing events, schedules, and operations
    • Strong interpersonal communication for engaging diverse audiences and stakeholders
    • Adaptability, problem-solving skills, and a proactive mindset to address challenges in dynamic environments
