Summary of Position:    JROTC Flight Academic initiative: The position will ensure the proper supervision, transportation, and logistical support for Air Force JROTC cadets – mostly high school rising seniors and newly graduated high school students – who will reside on the Marion, IN campus and complete flight training at the Marion Airport.

The individual must be available full-time throughout the duration of the Flight Academy (May 30 – July 28, 2024). Additionally, the individual must be available for training calls (2-3 hours maximum) prior to the training. It is expected that flight training and residential activities will operate six (6) days per week with Sundays and major holidays off. The Program Director position will load balance the schedule with a program assistant.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • 60% - Overseeing and monitoring student life activities and safety
    • Assess minimal preparedness (e.g., sufficient sleep, health and wellness, engagement in activities, and overall performance) of cadets and inform the Director and university leadership of any concerns
    • Communicate with university leadership any concerns pertaining to the flight school provider 
  • 25% - Transportation
    • Transport cadets between the Indianapolis airport at the start and end of the Flight Academy, between the Marion Campus and Marion Airport throughout the Flight Academy, and between the Marion Campus and local establishments as necessary for personal needs and community activities
    • Maintain the cleanliness and safe operating condition of the vehicle as stipulated by the university’s transportation policy  
  • 15% - Administration and supervision
    • Ensure proper and supervision of cadets during the duration of their stay
    • Oversee a part-time program assistant position 

Qualifications: According to Indiana Wesleyan University employment policy all employees must possess a strong Christian commitment and adhere to the standards outlined in the IWU Community Lifestyle Statement.


  • A bachelor’s degree is highly preferred, though may be waived if the applicant has significant experience
  • A master’s degree is preferred


  • Previous experience in higher education student development or working with high school youth
  • Preference given to applicants with tutoring, teaching, and/or camp counseling experience
  • Experience as an aviator is a plus

  • Significant capacity to lead and serve others
  • Demonstrated ability to develop positive relationships with students and manage conflict resolution
  • Skilled in mentoring or counseling youth
  • Superior ability to communicate in all forms (e.g., verbal and written) and modicums (e.g., electronic, in-person, or otherwise)
  • Ability to manage complex projects
  • Ability and legal authorization to drive a university passenger van and transport cadets and other university personnel safely between locations
