Job Title: Assistant of Associate Professor of Chemistry

Summary of Position:    Indiana Wesleyan University seeks applications for an Assistant or Associate Professor of Chemistry with an emphasis in inorganic or physical chemistry for the Marion, Indiana campus. The ideal candidate will be able to teach chemistry courses at all undergraduate levels in addition to general education courses for non-majors, as needed. The candidate should be committed to building and sustaining an active program of undergraduate research.

The IWU Chemistry Department has ACS accreditation. It has five full-time faculty members and is part of the Division of Natural Sciences which has 17.5 full-time faculty members. The division offers majors in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Physics, Biology, and Pre-Health Care Sciences. The division has a strong commitment to high quality, academically rigorous teaching, and a growing emphasis in undergraduate research.

Applicant should show evidence of personal faith in Jesus Christ; comfort with the Wesleyan-Arminian theology; a commitment to liberal arts learning; and the integration of Christian faith in teaching and practice.

Start date will be for the Spring 2024 semester or Fall 2024 semester pending funding.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Teaching chemistry courses with faith integration at all undergraduate levels
  • Student mentoring/academic advising
  • Curriculum development and assessment
  • Supervision of undergraduate research
  • Other university service
  • Scholarship and participation in professional organizations are encouraged

Qualifications: According to Indiana Wesleyan University employment policy all employees must possess a strong Christian commitment and adhere to the standards outlined in the IWU Community Lifestyle Statement.

Education

  • Candidates must have an earned doctorate or pursuing a doctorate in inorganic or physical chemistry

Experience

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively
  • Ability to work with diverse faculty, staff, and students
  • Prior undergraduate teaching experience preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to manage undergraduate research preferred

  • Skills for evaluation of the impact of teaching on the teaching-learning process and implementation of modifications as appropriate
  • Skills in interpreting and acting upon recommendations identified in course and program evaluation
