Job Title: Assistant Volleyball Coach (Part-time)

Reporting Relationship: Athletics Director and the Head Coach

Unit: IWU-Marion

Department: Volleyball-IWU Marion

Campus Location: Recreation & Wellness Center

Summary of Position:    The Assistant Volleyball Coach will assist the Head Coach to develop, manage, and successfully coach volleyball, to include scheduling, recruiting, equipment management, reporting scores and statistics, and website updating.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure strict adherence to all NAIA and NCCAA by-laws and regulations 
  • Ensure adherence with established institutional compliance rules, policies, and procedures as well as ethical standards of behavior 
  • Ensure satisfactory academic performance of student-athletes 
  • Ensure the spiritual, physical, emotional, and social welfare of student-athletes 
  • Responsible for successful coaching, to include maximizing the team's potential/abilities, keeping athletes eligible, supporting the spiritual development of each player, and retaining athletes through graduation 
  • Assist to propagate a comprehensive public relations program 
  • Assist the operations of sports camps and/or clinics 
  • Learn, understand, and adhere to all NAIA and NCCAA regulations 
  • Assist in coordinating and developing organized schedules
  • Assist in planning and implementing daily practice sessions 
  • Counsel with students and refer as necessary spiritual, personal, emotional, or academic problems 
  • Maintain a professional image and manner consistent with Indiana Wesleyan University's mission and goals. Support the policies of the student handbook with integrity
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor and create an environment of quality and innovation 
  • Work within the Athletic Department to foster an environment of cooperation and unity

Qualifications: According to Indiana Wesleyan University employment policy all employees must possess a strong Christian commitment and adhere to the standards outlined in the IWU Community Lifestyle Statement.


  • No minimum education level required
  • Experience as a student athlete who competed in collegiate athletics; coaches at a high school or club level for at least two (2) years, and/or has been an assistant coach in high school or college at least two years


  • Need to be gifted in supervising and motivating others

  • Must be creative and innovative; discerning and a thorough planner
  • Must subscribe to the principles and lifestyle of the Wesleyan Church
  • Needs to passionately support and articulate the University mission and vision for athletics within the context of that mission
  • Must demonstrate a mature and expressive Christian faith commitment
