Summary of Position:    The Division of Modern Language and Literature of Indiana Wesleyan University invites applications for an assistant/associate position in English. We seek a creative and engaging teacher-scholar, who is dedicated to the ideals of liberal learning and an educational philosophy based on the centrality of Jesus Christ and the integration of faith and learning in language instruction. Applicants should show evidence of personal faith in Jesus Christ, comfort with the Wesleyan-Arminian theology, and commitment to liberal arts learning.

Start date will be July 2022.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • In addition to their specialization(s), teaching assignments typically include English core courses as well as courses that fulfill the English/writing requirements of the general education package. The successful candidate is expected to render service at the program, divisional, school, college, and university level. The candidate will share advising and mentoring responsibilities for our English, English Education, and Writing majors/minors on the residential Marion campus.

Qualifications: According to Indiana Wesleyan University employment policy all employees must possess a strong Christian commitment and adhere to the standards outlined in the IWU Community Lifestyle Statement.


  • The ideal candidate will have a PhD in English or closely related field that meets accreditation requirements (18 graduate hours in English) with a specialization in one or more of the following areas:
    • British Literature,
    • Comparative Literature,
    • Rhetoric/Composition,
    • Post-Colonial Literature,
    • Linguistics,
    • Creative Writing,
    • ESL.


  • Qualified candidates should have experience teaching at the undergraduate level in both traditional and online venues and demonstrate the ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.
