Job Title: Nurse Practitioner

Reporting Relationship: Clinical Director of the IWU Wildcat Health Clinic

Unit: IWU-Marion

Department: Health Center-IWU Marion

Campus Location: Barnes Student Center

Summary of Position:    The Nurse Practitioner provides a wide range of care including but not limited to acute and preventive health care, women's health, and travel health and consultation to the Marion Indiana Wesleyan University campus including students, faculty, staff, and their dependents. The Nurse Practitioner also works closely with the Center for Student Success (counseling services) to provide mental health support for our student. This position is Monday - Friday, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., 9-month position (the academic calendar). This position includes tuition benefit.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide evidence-based health care. Maintain current knowledge of family medicine, adolescent medicine, infectious disease, and issues affecting college health 
  • Obtains, compiles, and records patient medical data, including health history, progress notes and results of physical examination 
  • Conducts complete physical examinations; provides medical evaluation and treatment to patients; develops treatment plans and monitors patient's progress 
  • Advises patients on results of laboratory tests and recommends referrals to specialists or other medical facilities as needed 
  • Collaborates with nurses, counselors, collaborating physician and the IWU Athletic Trainers to provide the best medical care
  • Provides preventive health education and care to patients to maintain and improve health and prevent illness 
  • May perform other duties as assigned 
  • Nurse Practitioner serves as a resource to the Registered Nurses and student nurses 

Qualifications: According to Indiana Wesleyan University employment policy all employees must possess a strong Christian commitment and adhere to the standards outlined in the IWU Community Lifestyle Statement.

Education

  • Current Indiana licensure as a Family or Adult Nurse Practitioner
  • Board Certified
  • Current CPR certification

Experience

  • A minimum of three (3) years clinical experience as a Nurse Practitioner is preferred; however, other clinical experiences will be considered

Required Skills

  • Strong oral and written communication skills for telephone, email, and personal contact. A pleasant, helpful attitude with the ability to remain calm under pressure and enjoy customer service
  • Consistent practice of evidence-based medicine
  • Independent and confident decision-making while recognizing when consultation is necessary
  • Proven reliability with clinic attendance and punctuality
  • Proficiency with use of an electronic medical record
