Summary of Position:    Under the general supervision of the Director of Advancement Services, the Gift
Accountant/Information Specialist is responsible for managing the timely processing and
acknowledgement of all gifts and pledges, maintaining and managing all gift/pledge records,
processing financial reports, maintaining the integrity of hard and electronic files, and assisting
with the production and mailing of gratitude reports and correspondence. This position is a
vital position within University Advancement as it is responsible for the recording of all gifts,
pledges and payments using a variety of applications and processes in accordance with IRS
Guidelines. The Gift Accountant will provide support for Advancement Operations staff and
acts as a liaison to donors with questions related to their giving records. This position will be
required to support Advancement sponsored events as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Processes and maintains records on all gifts, pledges, and donor related transactions
  • Answers questions from donors about gifts and pledges
  • Assists in the production, maintenance, and distribution of financial reports
  • Produces gift and pledge acknowledgements, including pledge reminders
  • Assists with production and submittal of information for the annual audit
  • Donor, Prospect and Alumni record maintenance by creating new records, reviewing and linking alumni or donor records and maintaining demographic information within our database
  • Database Information Management
  • Develop procedures for regularly enhancing and scrubbing data as related to gift processing
  • Maintain confidentially regarding all gifts and donors to the University
  • Other tasks as assigned

Qualifications: According to Indiana Wesleyan University employment policy all employees must possess a strong Christian commitment and adhere to the standards outlined in the IWU Community Lifestyle Statement.


• High School Diploma Required, Associate’s degree preferred.


• Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Word and Excel is required with strong working knowledge of Access or SQL preferred
• Computer proficiency in area of database maintenance and accounts receivables
• Demonstrated ability to work with colleagues who represent a diversity of work and conflict resolution styles.
• Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and integrity
