Summary of Position: The Grants & Sponsored Programs Accountant is responsible for pre/post-award grant accounting, including internal/external reporting and maintaining compliance with all federal and private grant agreements.
Duties and Responsibilities
Support faculty, staff, and administrators by developing/reviewing/editing grant budgets and budget narratives
Assist Director with internal review/approval process for grant proposals
Coordinate with Business Affairs Office to establish General Ledger account codes associated with new grants and communicate these GL accounting codes with project managers
Ensure funding award checks and direct deposits are delivered to the Business Affairs Office
Participate in grant kick-off meetings and quarterly check-in meetings with project managers and stakeholders to ensure compliance with grant agreement financial matters
Provide support to project managers for the duration of the grant cycle on matters associated with the grant budgets
Prepare monthly budget reports for project managers
Analyze variances between actual and budgeted expenses and notify project manager and Director of any concerns or questions related to grant finances
Assist Director with monthly/annual Grants & Sponsored Programs reports that include financial data
Support project managers by developing/reviewing/editing budgets to be included in their grant reports
Maintain accurate and up-to-date digital records of all current/past grant budgets, including reporting procedures and deadlines
Ensure compliance with Uniform Guidance and other regulations in accordance with the grant agreement
Prepare audit worksheets, schedules, reports, and supporting documentation to be used during grant audits by federal, state, or other related agencies and external auditors
Conduct specialized financial analysis as requested by the Director
Participate in regular meetings with the Grants & Sponsored Programs team, and with project managers or project teams
Fulfill other duties as assigned

Education
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, or related field
Experience
Three to five (3-5) years of related work experience desired
Required Skills
Understanding of general accounting principles
Understanding of grants accounting
Proficiency with Microsoft products (Excel, Word, etc.) and general computer skills
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic environment
Problem solving and resourcefulness with challenges that may arise in the workplace, taking initiative and seeking guidance when needed
Familiarity with federal, state, and private grant funding agency regulations and guidelines.
