Summary of Position: The Chief Academic Officer (CAO) is the primary, visionary voice and steward for the Christ-centered, creative, and engaging academic programs at Indiana Wesleyan University. The CAO is a skilled administrator with a passion for innovation, creativity, and Christian higher education. The Vice President for Academic Affairs (VPAA) oversees and directs the on-campus academic programs, faculty and related entities.
Duties and Responsibilities
Chief Academic Officer
Articulation, promotion and implementation of the university’s strategic vision for academic excellence, grounded in our Christian faith and Wesleyan heritage
Guide the President and University Cabinet on proper provision and allocation of resources needed to achieve the university’s academic vision and improve the strength and influence of the university’s academic programs
Administrative oversight of policies and systems for faculty hiring, development and review, rank promotion, and contracts
Provide direct oversight to the university’s central academic service departments including the Registrar’s office, accreditation and academic regulatory compliance, library services
Promotion of faculty and student research and scholarship as well as faculty development
Serve on university committees and councils as appropriate
Vice President for Academic Affairs
Articulation, promotion and implementation of the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS, Marion campus) academic vision
Ensure communication and collaboration between the CAS academic units and between CAS and IWU National & Global
Oversight and accountability for CAS academic budget
Provide direct oversight to CAS Registration and Academic Services (RAS) and Chapel
Collaborate with Student Development to promote and enhance student thriving
Serve and/or chair CAS committees and councils as appropriate
Carry out any other appropriate duties which may be reasonably required of the position
Supervisory Responsibilities include: Assistant VPAA, CAS Academic Deans, Dean of Library Services, University Registrar, Dean of Spiritual Formation, Director of Registration and Academic Services (RAS), Executive Director Faculty Research and Scholarship, and Academic Affairs Office staff

Education
Earned doctorate with credentials that merit appointment as full professor in an academic department
Experience
Accomplishments as a teacher, scholar, and academic administrator, with evidence of leadership in academic program development
Record of increasing responsibility and success in academic administration
Record of academic and scholarly achievement that demonstrates a commitment to academic excellence
Demonstrated success in collegial decisions, policies and management practices through a consultative and collaborative process with the University community
Keen understanding of the broad spectrum of academic research, scholarship and teaching
Required Skills
