Job Title: Life and Career Coach (Part-time)

Reporting Relationship: Associate Dean of the Life Calling & Career Center

Unit: IWU-Marion

Department: Life Calling & Career-IWU Marion

Campus Location: Barnes Student Center, Marion, IN

Summary of Position:    The Part-Time Life & Career Coach will provide individual and group services within an innovative program that helps students explore their unique life purpose and develop career building skills. This position will integrate all aspects of Indiana Wesleyan University’s student population, but will primarily focus on the needs of the Marion residential campus. This role will also participate in projects, programs, and assignments as needed to support the Life Calling & Career department.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Life Coaching
    • Practice theory-based Life Coaching services with students in one-on-one appointments
    • Contribute to innovative approaches in Coaching that advance and support Life Coaching services
    • Select, administer, and debrief assessments as qualified
    • Create and facilitate coaching programs for campus student groups as needed
    • Maintain Life Coaching process and protocols of the department
    • Stay current with Life Coaching research, competencies, and best practice 
  • Exploratory Classroom Instruction
    • Teach a section of LFC-150: Introduction to Life Calling every Fall semester
    • Collaborate to develop the curricular and co-curricular components to the LFC-150 course and experience
    • Serve as the Academic Advisor for Exploratory students in their LFC-150 section until they declare a major 
  • Career Coaching
    • Provide students with guidance in resume and cover letter creation and editing
    • Guide students to resources for job and internship search
    • Provide students with skills to develop their abilities in interviews
    • Stay current with Career Coaching research, competencies, and best practice 
  • Life Calling & Career Program Development
    • Assist with assessment of Life & Career Coaching programs
    • Assist in the training of Exploratory student Peer Coaches Coaches as needed
    • Support instructors in classroom teaching (e.g., LFC-150: Introduction to Life Calling) as needed 
  • Life Calling and Career Team
    • Connect with a variety of constituencies within IWU, including students, faculty, administration, and staff
    • Provide workshops and presentations to campus community as needed
    • Work alongside Life Calling & Career team to promote opportunities to prospective students 

Qualifications: According to Indiana Wesleyan University employment policy all employees must possess a strong Christian commitment and adhere to the standards outlined in the IWU Community Lifestyle Statement.

Education

  • Master’s Degree
  • Life Coaching Certification (Preferred): Any certification from an accredited coach training program as designated by the International Coaching Federation (ICF) or coach certification and/or a Career Coaching certification geared toward assisting young people with career assessments and coaching questions
  • Spiritual Direction Certification (Preferred): Any certification from an accredited, Christian training program

Experience

  • Theory-based knowledge of Life & Career Coaching models, skills, and scope of practice
  • Excellent relational, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Working knowledge of personality assessment tools (at least one or more of the following: MBTI, Enneagram, and Clifton Strengths)

Required Skills

  • Ability to meet deadlines and work within a team
  • Ability to work independently with high level of consistency and responsibility
  • Basic Computer Skills (familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite)
  • Basic Marketing Skills (familiarity with Canva)
  • Presentation and teaching skills preferred
