Job Title: Copywriter

Summary of Position:    The Copywriter uses talent, enthusiasm, and creative thinking to diligently research and effectively write content for internal IWU clients with an emphasis on writing web content for Search Engine Optimization (SEO). As a member of the communications team, the copywriter will write and edit content for the web and a variety of other projects including print, mobile, video, and social media. This position works in collaboration with the brand and creative teams to brainstorm ideas, develop concepts, and articulate the IWU message often involving thorough research and interviews. The most successful candidate will be a team player who can learn quickly and exhibit versatility in writing style.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Interpret creative briefs to develop concepts for execution while communicating ideas with team members and clients for optimal outcomes 
  • Write original copy and edit content for a wide range of marketing and communications materials, adapting writing style, voice, and content for desired audience while staying true to IWU brand messaging 
  • Write web content by continually staying on pace with SEO trends which drive content and organic web traffic 
  • Present copy concepts and final deliverables to communications team and clients, participating in the revision process enthusiastically

Qualifications: According to Indiana Wesleyan University employment policy all employees must possess a strong Christian commitment and adhere to the standards outlined in the IWU Community Lifestyle Statement.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, English, communications, or related discipline

Experience

  • Two or more (2+) years of professional writing experience with a portfolio of work
  • Experience in writing SEO content, preferably with optimization agencies DemandJump and/or SurferSEO
  • Experience with content management systems

Required Skills

  • Exceptional writing and research skills
  • Ability to work independently or with a team to meet deadlines
  • Excellent organizational skills and multitasking ability
  • Keen eye for detail and appreciation of great design
