Job Title: Grant Accountant

Reporting Relationship: Director of Research Support, Integrity & Sponsored Programs

Unit: IWU-Marion

Department: Business Affairs-IWU Marion

Campus Location: Maxwell Center

Summary of Position:    The Grant Accountant is responsible for the management and oversight of external grants and sponsored funding.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists Principal Investigators and the Director of Grants and Sponsored Programs with budget proposals following both institution and grantor expectations
  • Assists Principal Investigators and the Director of Grants and Sponsored Programs with budget narratives and supporting financial documentation
  • Supports the development and submission of budgets and financial documents required for grant proposals
  • Coordinates the fiscal administration of grant awards which includes but is not limited to the following:
    • Creating accurate financial projections for awards
    • Setting up the general ledger accounts
    • Training Principal Investigators on grants administration
    • Monitoring budgets
    • Supporting the Principal Investigators
  • Managing their awards in compliance with the institution and grantor
  • Reporting timely and accurate financial data
  • Sending monthly reports to grant holders
    • Auditing grant spending
    • Monthly reconciliations including the calculation of and distribution of indirect costs
  • Administrative support and financial oversight including but not limited to the procurement process of the sub-award process
  • Contract management
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications: According to Indiana Wesleyan University employment policy all employees must possess a strong Christian commitment and adhere to the standards outlined in the IWU Community Lifestyle Statement.

Education

  • Bachelor Degree in Accounting or related discipline

Experience

  • Minimum of one to three (1-3) years of financial management experience or related field

  • Ability to effectively communicate financial information to non-financial managers
  • Use of the following systems: Microsoft Office (specifically Excel)
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Strong team building and management skills
  • Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Capable of managing numerous simultaneous projects
