Summary of Position: The Executive Director of University Relations (EDUR) serves as an on-campus spokesperson for IWU alumni and leads efforts to create and sustain strong connections for our alumni and friends. The EDUR provides strategy and leadership to develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive program designed to provide engagement opportunities through volunteerism, programs, and events. The EDUR focuses on the engagement opportunities that will help create a life-long relationship between the University and our alumni and friends.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage and lead the University Relations team, oversee the fiscal budget, and planning for the Office of University Relations
- Develop the annual goals and metrics for evaluating the success of projects, initiatives, and efforts of University Relations team members in accordance with the institution’s strategic plan and goals
- Develop, implement, direct, and oversee outlined position objectives, strategies, and tactics for University Relations staff; create measurable goals for each position and track progress on a monthly and annual basis
- Develop, implement, and maintain meaningful opportunities for volunteerism, personal and professional development, and events and programs for alumni and IWU constituents
- Develop, implement, and maintain plans and activities for alumni affinity groups (academic, special interest, professional affiliations, etc.)
- Develop strategies, implement, and maintain plans and activities for affinity groups (academics, special interests, professional affiliations, etc.) to support their events and activities
- Engage in professional development such as self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development courses, and attending training and/or courses (as directed by the supervisor)
- Work with Advancement Operations to identify and support ongoing efforts to capture, maintain, and enhance alumni data
- Engage a wide range of alumni and in the ongoing life of the University through consistent and positive communication through direct contact, electronic, digital, print, and social media
- Develop collaborative relationships with Enrollment Management to increase Alumni involvement with student recruitment, parent relations, orientation, and related activities with emphasis on implementing a strong legacy enrollment strategy
- Maintain a select portfolio of alumni or relevant prospects
- Collaborate with the Executive Director of Development and Executive Director of Advancement Operations to assure all University Advancement strategies and processes align
- Contributes to the overall success of the University Advancement by working on special projects and performing all other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Vice President for University Advancement
- Participate regularly in IWU and University Advancement events to understand the community, culture, and expectations of internal and external constituents
- Foster a collaborative and inclusive spirit among subordinates, peers, and superiors within University Advancement and across the IWU community
- Exhibit IWU and University Advancement’s values of Christlikeness, commitment, leadership, service, stewardship, innovation, and diversity
Qualifications: According to Indiana Wesleyan University employment policy all employees must possess a strong Christian commitment and adhere to the standards outlined in the IWU Community Lifestyle Statement.

Education
- Bachelor's degree required, preferably from Indiana Wesleyan University
- Master's degree preferred
Experience
- Five years of appropriate experience in communications, advancement, alumni relations, marketing, or other client-centered organizations
Required Skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to write and speak persuasively about IWU
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively with all levels of staff, faculty, alumni, and friends
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
- Demonstrated experience with budget preparation and fiscal management
- Demonstrated ability in volunteer management
- Requires the use of a cell phone which is eligible for monthly reimbursement set by IWU guidelines
- Must be able to travel (20%-30%) throughout the U.S. to promote IWU
- Must be able to attend and participate in evening and weekend activities as needed
