Summary of Position:    Indiana Wesleyan University – Marion residential campus—seeks a creative and engaging Spanish teacher who is dedicated to the ideals of liberal learning and holds an educational philosophy based on the centrality of Jesus Christ and the integration of faith and learning.

The Division of Modern Language and Literature provides critical leadership in reading, writing, literature, and languages for the College of Arts and Sciences on the Marion campus. The Division has 8 full-time faculty members and several adjunct faculty members. It offers seven majors (English, English Education, Spanish, Spanish Education, TESOL, TESOL Education, and Writing) and five minors (English, Spanish, TESOL, World Languages, and Writing).

Start date will be August 2023.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • The Spanish adjunct should expect to teach 1-3 sections of beginning and/or intermediate level Spanish courses in the target language and attend training/workshop sessions on beginning/intermediate level Spanish curriculum as well as on Brightspace, IWU’s Learning Management System. 

Qualifications: According to Indiana Wesleyan University employment policy all employees must possess a strong Christian commitment and adhere to the standards outlined in the IWU Community Lifestyle Statement.

Education

  • Spanish MA or 18 hours of graduate level Spanish courses.

Experience

  • Teaching experience at the high school or college level.

Required Skills

  • The Spanish adjunct candidate should
    • possess native or near-native fluency in Spanish and English,
    • be able to use and incorporate technology in the classroom and online learning platforms,
    • be committed to creating a student-centered, immersive L2 classroom environment.
