Summary of Position: The Assistant Director of Donor Experience is responsible for developing and implementing strategies to engage, recognize, and retain donors, ensuring they feel appreciated and informed about the impact of their contributions. This role involves managing donor communications, assisting with stewardship events, and collaborating with the University Advancement team to enhance donor engagement, belonging, and loyalty.
Duties and Responsibilities
Create and manage a comprehensive donor recognition program, including timely and personalized thank-you letters, calls, and other forms of acknowledgment
Elevate the giving experience for all donors, including personal communication, connection with students and faculty, engagement with the President and other institutional leaders, etc.
Collaborate with Advancement staff to gather and present information on the impact of donations, ensuring donors are kept informed about how their gifts are being used
Work with the Director of Advancement Communication, Events, and Projects in the planning and execution of donor stewardship events, specifically appreciation luncheons and Giving Society events
Oversee the creation and distribution of annual endowment reports for all endowment donors
Stay informed about trends and best practices in enhancing the donor’s experience and apply this knowledge to improve the University’s stewardship efforts
Perform other related duties assigned by supervisor to improve the donor experience
Qualifications: According to Indiana Wesleyan University employment policy all employees must possess a strong Christian commitment and adhere to the standards outlined in the IWU Community Lifestyle Statement.
Education
Bachelor’s degree required
Communications, Nonprofit Management, or a related field preferred
Experience
Minimum of two to three (2-3) years of experience in donor stewardship, event planning, or a related role preferred
Experience with donor databases and CRM systems
Required Skills
Strong writing and communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling donor materials
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
Ability to work independently, set priorities, multi-task, and use independent judgment while keeping supervisor informed of work activity and issues
