Job Title: Athletic Fields Lead
Reporting Relationship: Director of Grounds and Landscaping

Summary of Position: The Athletic Field and Grounds Specialist supports the campus community by maintaining and preparing athletic fields and surrounding grounds under the direction of the Director of Grounds and Landscaping. Responsibilities include turf care, field setup, irrigation and equipment maintenance, pest control, and project coordination to ensure fields meet collegiate play standards. The role supervises staff and student workers, supports coaches and athletic events, and upholds all safety and licensing requirements. Additional duties include seasonal snow removal and general campus grounds maintenance.
Duties and Responsibilities
Manage day to day athletic field maintenance and care to include field lining, mowing, repair and setups related to sporting events
Supervise staff and student workers to ensure athletic fields meet the required specifications for collegiate play
Work with coaches and support them by maintaining high level of playing fields
Manage, plan and support projects related to athletic fields
Inspect and evaluate turf on a regular basis
Control of insects and diseases in lawns and communicate with Turf Specialist about issues as needed
Oversee aeration on all playing fields including cross country along with maintaining equipment
Oversee irrigation operation, repair and set up
Oversee basic equipment care and repair
Train and supervises staff and student workers at the athletic fields Participates in routine ground functions as needed: trash pickup, bed care, mowing, landscaping work, vehicle maintenance, etc
Operates riding mowers, tractors, loaders, back hoes, skid steers, push mowers, weed eaters, edgers, off road vehicles, sprayers and other grounds related equipment Operates a snowplow and snow blower to remove snow and ice from sidewalks, streets and parking lots
Cuts trees and limbs using a chainsaw
Hauls dirt, stone, and mulch using a dump truck and front-end loader
Operates and assist in maintaining small engine equipment such as a weed eater, blower, push mower, etc
Assist in pond maintenance
Post flags in turf areas treated with pesticide
Adhere to all safety regulations and standards spelled out in the IWU safety policy and or dictated by trainings
Maintain required 3B licensure thru the state for pesticide application
Comply with any processes and procedures established by Facilities management and or Indiana Wesleyan University administration
May be required to work overtime as directed by supervisor
Qualifications: According to Indiana Wesleyan University employment policy all employees must possess a strong Christian commitment and adhere to the standards outlined in the IWU Community Lifestyle Statement.
Education
Maintain required 3B licensure thru the state for pesticide application.
Experience
Five (5) years of relative experience in a grounds/maintenance related field with a heavy preference on application experience and turf care best practices.
Required Skills
Operates riding mowers, tractors, loaders, back hoes, skid steers, push mowers, weed eaters, edgers, off road vehicles, sprayers, and other grounds related equipment
Must have a valid driver's license
