Summary of Position:    The primary responsibilities of the Plumbing Systems Technician are:  Assist the Lead Plumbing Systems Technician with coordinating and organizing daily to monthly work schedules; Ensure the provision of uninterrupted, quality plumbing service and maintenance to the Marion Campus; Provide and exhibit sound stewardship practices as pertaining to budgets within the Mechanical Systems Division; Assist with monitoring and maintaining inventories of components and other associated supplies as required for Plumbing Systems operations.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist Lead Plumbing Systems Technician in the development of a Campus Capital Action Plan specifically related to the University’s Plumbing Systems assets by identifying future maintenance items with potential budgetary impact of those items
  • Daily review, monitoring & repair of Plumbing system components and building systems to ensure optimum operation of plumbing systems
  • In coordination with Lead Plumbing Systems Technician, provide leadership in the procurement of materials, supplies, equipment, and services related to the campus Plumbing Systems 
  • Assist Lead Plumbing Systems Technician with internal project development including scope, code adherence, labor and material estimation, budget establishment and oversight. Receive and carry out special assignments as may be directed by the Lead Plumbing Systems Technician
  • Represent IWU as assigned to internal and external committees and agencies in related functions and assignments. May be required to work overtime as directed by supervision

  • High School Diploma


  • Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in Plumbing Systems or equivalent equipment maintenance and repair.

Required Skills

  • Highly attentive to details, a self-starter, and ability to work without close supervision.
  • Ability to effectively operate equipment specific to the plumbing trade such as a backhoe, mini excavator, sewer snake, jetter, sewer camera, etc.
  • Creative and innovative; gifted in problem solving; talented planner and organizer.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; discerning and tactful.
