Job Title: Simulation Laboratory Manager (Part-time)

Department: Pre-Licensure Nursing

Campus Location: Burns Hall Science & Nursing

Summary of Position:    Coordinates the daily operations of the nursing lab, supervises the secretarial, student, and RN staff, provides a well-equipped, state of the art learning lab environment for nursing students and faculty, promotes acquisition of basic and advanced nursing skills to the nursing students by the nursing faculty, collaborates with the simulation specialist, and promotes a professional and positive work environment.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Management:
    • Manage daily simulation lab operations, including managing schedules and oversee lab staff
    • Hire, onboard, and schedule simulation lab staff
    • Provide leadership, management, and coordination of lab experiences
    • Delegate tasks to student workers and nursing staff
    • Assist students in the practice, reinforcement, and remediation of technical skills in the simulation lab, in coordination with course faculty; this includes conducting skills proficiency exams for students transferring into the program
    • Oversee preparation of the lab for lab and simulation experiences, including manikins and all materials needed
    • Assist with simulation experiences in terms of equipment and technology management
    • Other duties as assigned
  • Professional:
    • Serve as a professional role model for students in dress, communication, deportment, problem solving, care delivery, and patient advocacy to facilitate students’ socialization into the profession
    • Demonstrate commitment to promoting inclusiveness and cultural competence
    • Strong working knowledge and understanding of established professional codes of ethics and best practices for nursing education
    • Incorporate current and relevant practices of simulation, clinical reasoning, and best practice standards into lab experiences, in collaboration with simulation specialist
  • Collaboration:
    • Coordinate with other departments for use of lab space, supplies, and expertise
    • Participate in and assist in coordination of tours and events for potential students or other special interest groups
  • Space and Equipment:
    • Provide for the installation, maintenance, programming, operation, and training of high technology patient simulators, low technology task trainers, clinical equipment, audiovisual system, and related information technology and multimedia equipment
    • Manage and maintain lab and simulation supplies and storage areas, working in conjunction with faculty and staff
    • Research and evaluate vendors and supply costs and approve necessary purchases
    • Work collaboratively with faculty and staff to develop, coordinate, implement, and evaluate simulation-based education and events

Qualifications: According to Indiana Wesleyan University employment policy all employees must possess a strong Christian commitment and adhere to the standards outlined in the IWU Community Lifestyle Statement.

Education

  • Current RN license in Indiana required
  • BSN from an accredited college required
  • Master’s degree in Nursing preferred

Experience

  • Three years of experience in full-time direct patient care practice and/or nursing management

Required Skills

  • Strong conflict resolution skills
  • Highly organized
  • Basic computer skills
