Job Title: Esports Head Coach

Reporting Relationship: Director of Athletics

Summary of Position:    The primary responsibilities of the Esports Head Coach is to direct, support and supervise a successful intercollegiate Esports program representing assistant coaches and student athletes. The Head Coach is responsible for the culture, budget, strategic planning, facilities, policies, compliance, scholarships, recruiting, promotion, and leadership of the team.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ministry Values and Strategy:
    • The Esports Head Coach must be committed to the Lordship of Christ, continually seeking personal growth through the regular practice of spiritual disciplines and creating spiritually rich environments for others to do the same. - (Essential)
    • The Head Coach will support the IWU Athletics mission of developing students' Spiritual Growth, Academic Achievement, Leadership Development, and Athletic Excellence.
    • The Head Coach must embody and promote the Wildcat Way biblical values of Kindness, Humility, Belonging, Integrity, and Courage in their life, work, and interaction with others. 
  • Specific responsibilities:
    • Support the spiritual development of each player through intentional discipleship strategies, maximizing the team's potential/abilities, keeping athletes eligible, and retaining athletes through graduation 
    • Ensure spiritual, physical, emotional, mental, and social welfare of student-athletes 
    • Develop, manage, and successfully lead the Esports program including practices, scheduling, recruiting, equipment management, and appropriate social media involvement 
    • Manage and operate within budget parameters, without exception 
    • Ensure adherence with established institutional, NACE, and NAIA compliance rules, policies, and procedures as well as ethical standards of behavior
    • Ensure satisfactory academic performance of student-athletes 
    • Supervise and mentor coaching assistants as directed and approved by Director of Athletics 
    • Manage all department fund-raising and booster events in accordance with University, NACE, and NAIA expectations, and institutional rules, policies, and procedures 
    • Participate in long-range planning and assessment, attend all departmental training sessions and meetings, read and comply with all departmental policy manuals 
    • Work closely with Facilities workers to insure proper upkeep of athletic facilities
    • Opportunity to develop sport camps and conferences as fundraisers and compensation supplement 
    • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics 
  • General Expectations:
    • Build an Esports program on the foundation of a disciple-making culture 
    • Counsel with students and refer as necessary regarding spiritual, personal, emotional, or academic problems 
    • Participate as requested in committees, councils, or professional organizations that pertain to this position. Attendance at chapel services is encouraged 
    • Maintain a professional image and manner consistent with Indiana Wesleyan University's mission and goals. Support the policies of the student handbook with integrity 
    • Work within Athletic Department to foster an environment of cooperation and unity 

Qualifications: According to Indiana Wesleyan University employment policy all employees must possess a strong Christian commitment and adhere to the standards outlined in the IWU Community Lifestyle Statement.

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree required

Experience

  • Should have some level of experience in coaching that includes recruiting student-athletes, marketing, scheduling, equipment budgeting/management, and facility care

Required Skills

  • Must demonstrate a mature and expressive Christian faith commitment
  • Needs to passionately support and articulate the University mission and vision for athletics within the context of that mission
  • Must subscribe to the principles and lifestyle of the Wesleyan Church
